Summary
With 118 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,086.00, 35.6% of 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 3.8 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid stands out as a practical three-row hybrid SUV that was designed with families in mind. It could comfortably seat eight passengers, and Toyota made the model more accessible for this year by introducing entry-level Highlander Hybrid LE and XLE trims. The refreshed exterior also gave it a restyled front fascia, new headlights, and new taillights, helping it look more modern without losing its familiar, family-oriented character.
Under the hood, the 2017 model used an updated gasoline engine that was identical to the non-hybrid version and produced 295 horsepower. Toyota also made Toyota SafetySense standard for all trims, adding a broad set of driver-assistance features. Inside, the Highlander Hybrid remained well appointed, with a leather dash, a leather steering wheel, and triple-zone climate control, while its cargo area stayed useful with all three rows in place and became especially impressive when the second and third rows were folded down.
For buyers, the appeal of the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is its blend of space, efficiency, and everyday usability. It was generally reliable, and the hybrid system helped it deliver strong fuel economy for a large family vehicle. The main tradeoffs are that the third row is best suited to children and that the model is not especially exciting to drive, but for shoppers prioritizing comfort, practicality, and hybrid efficiency, it remains a compelling choice.

Is the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?
The 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is described as generally reliable, and its hybrid setup is part of what makes it appealing for long-term use.
Owner feedback also points to dependable, trouble-free ownership for many shoppers, especially those who value a vehicle they can count on for family duty and long trips. That said, used buyers should still think carefully about maintenance history and prior use, since long-term ownership risk is never zero on a hybrid SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?
At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear that could point to past accident repairs. Because this is a family SUV, you should also focus on interior condition, cargo-area wear, and how well the third row and second-row seating have been maintained.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market: there are enough listings to shop carefully, but the best examples can still move quickly.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 126 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.71% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,528.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $24,354 sits slightly above last year's $23,711.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support your resale position if you buy carefully. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that well-kept examples should remain competitive, especially if they have clean history and strong maintenance records. If you pay near the low end of the range, you may have a better chance of preserving value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.71% year-over-year.
Consider the 2016 if:
- It offers a well-equipped, well-priced hybrid SUV with a distinctive semi-luxury feel.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the better pick if you want the refreshed look, family-friendly packaging, and a market that still shows solid demand. If you're more price-sensitive, the 2016 is worth a look because it emphasizes value and a strong mix of equipment and practicality.
