The expert review reinforces that dependable character by describing it as a competent sedan and noting Toyota’s well-earned reputation for reliability.

The Camry’s straightforward powertrain and strong value positioning also support confidence for used buyers, especially if you prioritize a car that should be easy to live with over the long haul. What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or higher mileage. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment still works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, daytime running lights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 60-40-split rear bench, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, woodgrain-style interior trim, and power locks and windows. The SE adds a sporty front-end look, a black mesh grille, 17-inch alloy graphite-look wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede front and rear seats, while another XSE setup adds LED headlights, a smart key system, push-button start, leather-trimmed heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. XSE and XLE trims can also be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is standard, and the SE and XSE add steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Camry does not offer forward-collision avoidance and prevention.
• Infotainment: The LE and SE use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity and Bluetooth hands-free calling with Siri EyesFree. The XSE and XLE upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation app support, voice recognition, a 3-month SiriusXM All Access subscription, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined.

Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value play if you want the lowest-cost path into the Camry with the core comfort and safety equipment already in place. It gives you the essentials without pushing you into pricier trim content.
• SE: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a firmer driving feel, including the sport-tuned suspension and exterior upgrades. It makes sense if style and a more engaging chassis matter more to you than luxury features.
• XSE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger touchscreen, navigation app support, voice recognition, JBL audio, and upscale cabin touches. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and everyday appeal, this is the one to target.
• XLE: Pick this if you want the most comfort-oriented setup and are willing to pay more for the richer feature set. It suits you best if you want the Camry to feel more premium than practical.

Safety-wise, the available driver-assistance features are limited to the higher-end equipment described above, so check carefully for the specific package content on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,421 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.12% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 47.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,164, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $14,981 sits slightly above last year's $14,815.

That modest increase suggests the Camry has held value reasonably well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. A stable price trend usually points to steady demand rather than sharp depreciation, and that can help protect your exit value.

Because this model year also has strong owner satisfaction, it should remain appealing to used buyers who want a dependable sedan. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2017 Toyota Camry earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, earns an overall crash score of Good from the IIHS, and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One important caveat is that the Camry does not offer forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so you should not assume every used example has the latest active-safety tech.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.12% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 is the last year of the generation and offers a well-rounded, highly competent sedan.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,754, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,981 average.
• It’s a practical, easy-to-live-with hybrid sedan with strong space and comfort.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,694, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,981 average.
• It brings bolder styling and a more expressive design direction.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, satisfaction, and proven competence, the 2017 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer look and are willing to pay more for it.
