Is the 2017 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Avalon?

At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any serious contender and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past issues that photos may not show. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because a clean, well-kept example is likely to be the better buy.

The current average of $18,179 sits slightly below last year's $18,900.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can matter if you plan to sell in the near future. A softer price trend can reduce your upside, but it can also make the car easier to buy at a fair entry point today. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance documented, you can help protect value when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $16,846, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $18,179 average.
• It offers a refreshed design and a more balanced driving feel.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market mix of pricing, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the better value play, especially if you find one with a clean history and solid maintenance records.
