I thought this was a very solid purchase. Ive owned the vehicle for about 5 years and have been happy with the purchase. My only complaint is that I thought the sound system could have been a little better. It was still good but I like to listen to my music loud so it would most likely be satisfactory for most people

4Runner is the last of the real SUV’s….in a world flooded with cutesy crossovers and bloated luxury barges, the 4Runner stands alone as a rugged, do it all vehicle. Simplicity and quality will always outshine “tech” and disposability.

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary repeatedly points to reliability, ruggedness, solid construction, and long-lasting value, which are all traits buyers usually want when they plan to keep a vehicle for years. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for extended ownership if the individual example has been maintained well. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how hard a specific vehicle has been used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota 4Runner?
At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, put inspection priority on body condition, signs of repair, and overall wear, since those details matter more when you are shopping a rugged SUV. Focus on the specific vehicle’s maintenance and condition rather than assuming every listing will reflect the model’s strong reputation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota 4Runner?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,517 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.42% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,718.17, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $27,225 sits slightly below last year's $27,616.
That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current pricing still reflects steady demand rather than a sharp drop, so well-kept examples should remain relatively easy to move. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.42% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $24,653, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $27,225 average.
- It emphasizes off-road capability and ruggedness.
The bottom line: If you want the newer year with strong owner satisfaction and a market that still offers some deal opportunities, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find a clean, well-maintained example.
