Is the 2017 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Nissan Sentra earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly highlight its reliability, efficiency, and great gas mileage, and many also appreciate its smooth driving experience and attractive styling. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a straightforward commuter car that is easy to live with and economical to run. Is the 2017 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback describes it as reliable, efficient, and trouble-free for many drivers, with several owners emphasizing dependable everyday use and strong gas mileage. Some shoppers do raise concerns about the CVT transmission, so long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully on any used example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Sentra?

At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether the car has any accident or title issues. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on overall condition, especially signs of prior repair quality and how the car drives. Because owner feedback mentions CVT concerns, pay close attention to transmission behavior during the test drive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Sentra?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,011 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $8,928, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $9,093 sits slightly below last year's $9,587.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests the model has experienced some downward pressure in the market. If you plan to resell later, you should expect value retention to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. A clean, well-kept example is more likely to hold buyer interest than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,087, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,093 average.
• It brings a refreshed look and updated infotainment features.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the more price-sensitive alternative and may be worth a closer look.
