Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Coupe on Apr 11, 2023
The c63s is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. The steering, throttle response and brakes are all amazing. The suspension is extremely rough, even compared to cars like the F-type. However the driving experience makes the bumpy ride worth it. It has a great interior with a good sized trunk. The back seats are small, but much larger than a LC500. If youre in the market for a fast and fun car definitely pick one up. Its an amazing car with an amazing hand-built V8 that will last. Id definitely take a C63 coupe over a F-type, DB11, Hellcat, M4, M8, Gt350 and almost every car in the segment. (Below the Lc500 though) Overall a great car you should pick up if its in your budget.

The Mercedes Benz C Coupe sets itself aside from its sedan version. In fact, despite having the same nameplate, and badging, it is an entirely different car. Kudos to the sedan, no doubt, but the Coupe just epitomizes the right balance between pure luxury and pure sport. It is pleasant to find how well it does both in equal parts. Beautifully styled inside and out, it offers upgrades as standard that are options with the sedan. Drives enthusiastically, precisely, and comfortably. This model year is where the depreciation has its full effect and is quite affordable. It puts a smile on my face just by gazing at it, let alone what it does when I get behind the wheel.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good car?
Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features. They also highlight the car’s responsiveness and comfort, which fits well with the C-Class’s compact luxury-sedan mission. In practical terms, that means you’re looking at a car that aims to deliver a premium feel without giving up everyday drivability.
The market also reflects healthy interest, with 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with recurring praise for comfort and performance that you can count on. The expert write-up also emphasizes that the C-Class does so many things right that it’s hard to choose a better compact luxury sedan, which supports the case for long-term ownership confidence.
You should still budget carefully for upkeep, since some owners note higher maintenance costs and there are mentions of a leaky fuel line in some models. For used buyers, that means condition and service history matter a lot more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on how the car drives over rough pavement, whether the electronics work cleanly, and whether the cabin and exterior match the seller’s description. Because this model can be optioned heavily, you’ll also want to confirm that the features you expect are actually present on the specific car you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup includes a 7-inch central screen, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports, while higher-spec versions add an 8.4-inch screen, navigation, map updates, SiriusXM traffic and weather data, LED headlights and taillights, and a premium Burmester audio system.
- Powertrain: The C300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic and available rear- or 4Matic all-wheel drive. It delivers strong everyday shove, though the write-up notes it is not as quick as the previous V6-powered version.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, and an attention monitor. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The standard screen is 7 inches, and the available upgrade is 8.4 inches. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are not mentioned, but the system does include Bluetooth, HD Radio, navigation on the upgraded setup, voice recognition, and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The C300 4Matic is rated at 24 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while rear-wheel-drive models reach 34 mpg highway. In testing, the car averaged 23 mpg over 620 miles.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300.
Here's the short version:
The C300 is the trim to focus on because it’s the core version you’ll see most often, and it already delivers the model’s main strengths: strong turbocharged performance, a premium cabin, and a long list of standard safety features. If you want the best value, look for a well-equipped example that adds the larger screen and the convenience and lighting upgrades, since those features make the car feel more complete without changing the basic formula.
The safety package is a major plus either way, with forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and rear side thorax-level airbags included.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,003 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,473.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $17,423 sits slightly below last year's $19,234.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the ownership cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness may limit short-term appreciation, but it can also make the car easier to move if you buy well and keep it in strong condition. A clean history and good maintenance records should matter more to future buyers than small differences in trim.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?
The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can help manage crosswinds, and an attention monitor as standard equipment. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- More of the same—and that’s a very good thing.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, luxury feel, and proven appeal, the 2017 model year is a sensible place to shop. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market and broad inventory to target a well-kept example with the options you want, rather than stretching for a newer year.
