Why it stands out
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class stands out as a compact luxury sedan that blends comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal in a way that has made it Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model in the U.S. The car’s appeal is rooted in that balanced formula: it offers the kind of polished driving experience and upscale image buyers expect from a German luxury sedan, while remaining accessible enough to attract a broad audience.
For 2017, the C-Class was described as offering more of the same, which is a strength in itself when the formula is already working well. Drivers are drawn to its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features, and many also appreciate its responsiveness and comfort on the road. At the same time, some owners note that maintenance costs can be high, and taller passengers may find the cabin a bit cramped.

This is a great car. It’s got the right engine and specs needed for the C-Class sedan compared to the C300 model.

Reviewed a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Coupe on Apr 11, 2023
The c63s is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. The steering, throttle response and brakes are all amazing. The suspension is extremely rough, even compared to cars like the F-type. However the driving experience makes the bumpy ride worth it. It has a great interior with a good sized trunk. The back seats are small, but much larger than a LC500. If youre in the market for a fast and fun car definitely pick one up. Its an amazing car with an amazing hand-built V8 that will last. Id definitely take a C63 coupe over a F-type, DB11, Hellcat, M4, M8, Gt350 and almost every car in the segment. (Below the Lc500 though) Overall a great car you should pick up if its in your budget.

The Mercedes Benz C Coupe sets itself aside from its sedan version. In fact, despite having the same nameplate, and badging, it is an entirely different car. Kudos to the sedan, no doubt, but the Coupe just epitomizes the right balance between pure luxury and pure sport. It is pleasant to find how well it does both in equal parts. Beautifully styled inside and out, it offers upgrades as standard that are options with the sedan. Drives enthusiastically, precisely, and comfortably. This model year is where the depreciation has its full effect and is quite affordable. It puts a smile on my face just by gazing at it, let alone what it does when I get behind the wheel.

How much does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,738 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,357.44 |
| Year-Round High | $18,937.21 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,930 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.30% |
Prices have softened 6.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,872 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $17,357.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish design, and luxurious features, and many also like its responsiveness and comfort on the road. The C-Class also fits buyers who want a compact luxury sedan with a polished driving experience and an upscale image, while still staying accessible enough to attract a broad audience. With 25.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Drivers also describe it as a car they enjoy for the long haul because of its comfort, performance, and upscale feel, though some note maintenance costs can be high and there have been concerns about a leaky fuel line in some models.
The driving impression also supports that dependability story: the car feels calm in Comfort mode, confident on curvy roads, and composed enough to handle daily use without drama. The maintenance side still matters for used buyers, so a careful inspection and service-history review are smart before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and evidence of past repairs, since those clues can tell you more than a quick test drive alone. If maintenance records are available, use them to confirm the car has been serviced on schedule.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin emphasizes expressive design, upscale materials, and a traditional luxury atmosphere, while the cheaper CLA is called out as the benchmark for what this car does not feel like. The Luxury version swaps in a thinner upright chrome grille and hood ornament, while the Sport package tester wore a more aggressive look with 18-inch wheels and a sportier presentation.
- Powertrain: The main setup is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic and available rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The car is quick enough for daily use, but the text notes it is not as satisfying to wring out as the previous V6-powered version.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, an attention monitor, and brake-drying logic in wet weather. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard, along with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The 8.4-inch screen adds navigation, map updates, SiriusXM traffic and weather data, and the system also supports voice recognition and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The text says the car averaged a calculated 23 mpg over 620 miles, and EPA figures include 24 mpg city and 31 highway for the 4Matic model, with rear-wheel-drive versions rated at 34 mpg highway.
Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300.
Here's the short version:
The C300 is the trim to focus on because it carries the core C-Class formula: a 2.0-liter turbo four, a 7-speed automatic, and the upscale cabin and road manners that define the model. It is the best fit if you want the standard C-Class experience without chasing the higher-priced AMG variants or piling on options. The text also makes clear that the regular base version includes Agility Control, while the Luxury version uses softer-tuned dampers and smaller 17-inch tires, so your choice should come down to ride preference and road conditions.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and rear side thorax-level airbags, while blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,872 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,357.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $17,738 sits slightly below last year's $18,930.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the C-Class still has broad appeal thanks to its luxury image, strong performance, and comfort. The challenge is that depreciation has already moved the market lower, so condition and service history will matter a lot when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?
The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes includes rear side thorax-level airbags as standard, along with forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, stability control that can help counter crosswinds, an attention monitor, and brake-drying logic in wet weather. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus. The main caveat is that several useful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- More of the same is the point here: the expert summary says the 2017 model continues the C-Class formula of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the classic C-Class mix of luxury feel, strong performance, and broad market availability, the 2017 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can wait for a cleaner listing or a better deal, but the current market already gives you enough inventory and enough discounting to shop with confidence.
