How much does the 2017 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 3.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,889 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, and comfortable handling, and they also highlight its fuel economy on long trips. In use-case terms, that lines up well if you want a commuter with more space that still feels refined and fun to drive rather than purely practical.

The market also shows 33.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to excellent reliability, and it describes the CX-5 as a vehicle many drivers can count on. On the road, the expert evaluation reinforces that dependable character by noting strong everyday drivability and a powertrain that responds willingly in normal use.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you’re considering. Because this model’s appeal depends a lot on refinement, you’ll want to make sure the cabin, electronics, and safety equipment are all in good working order.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power side mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual USB ports, MazdaConnect infotainment, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Touring adds leatherette seating, auto-leveling headlights, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear climate control vents, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Grand Touring adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, full leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, navigation, auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo. The Touring is the best-value trim if you want the biggest step up in comfort and convenience.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The setup is tuned to feel responsive, with strong acceleration and confident cornering.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The higher trim brings the fullest safety feature set.
• Infotainment: MazdaConnect uses a 7-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial, and the screen becomes a touchscreen when the vehicle is in Park. It does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model returns 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined, while AWD versions return 23 city, 30 highway, and 26 combined. The AWD test vehicle averaged 26.3 mpg.

Which 2017 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with LED headlights, a reversing camera, keyless entry, push-button start, and MazdaConnect. It makes sense if you want the CX-5’s core driving character at the lowest price.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades many shoppers will notice every day, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seating, rear USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Grand Touring: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience, with leather seating, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and the full safety suite including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

The safety-package trim note is simple: Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring brings the most advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,889 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,193, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $15,943 sits slightly below last year's $16,531.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper upside for a future seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to sell. Trim level and equipment matter too, since better-equipped versions tend to appeal to a broader pool of used shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS when equipped with automatic emergency braking.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Smart City Brake Support, which can pre-charge the brakes and even apply them automatically at low speeds if needed. Touring adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. That means the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for the higher trim.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its sporty, upscale feel and strong safety credentials.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,873, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,943 average.
• It moves the CX-5 further toward premium territory with a more refined overall presentation.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2017 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year feel and a slightly more premium presentation, the 2018 is the secondary path to consider.
