Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition, feature operation, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some desirable driver-assistance items were not standard on every version.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premiere trim gives you front-wheel drive, an adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED tail lights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and Sync 3 on an 8-inch touchscreen. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus Package content, a power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Black Label sits above those trims with upgraded leather and wood trim.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic. A bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 is available, and it brings much stronger output, including a 400-hp setup with AWD.
• Safety package: The Select Plus Package adds navigation with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts. The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of those features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is described as a major upgrade over the previous system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD setup returns 24 mpg combined, with 21 city and 31 highway. The AWD version is rated at 23 mpg combined, with 21 city and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined in FWD form and 20 mpg combined with AWD. The hybrid returns 40 mpg combined, with 41 city and 38 highway.

Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, Black Label.

Here's the short version:

• Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong list of standard equipment, including Sync 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension, and dual-zone climate control. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and still want a well-equipped luxury sedan.
• Select: This is the best-value trim because it adds leather upholstery, more cabin convenience features, and access to the most important option packages. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Reserve: This trim adds the Select Plus Package content, a power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and front-seat ventilation. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top-tier special edition.
• Black Label: This is the most upscale version, with upgraded leather and wood trim and additional theme-based customization. It makes sense if you want the most premium presentation and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package trims are especially important here: blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come with the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make shopping worthwhile if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 421 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,772, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?

The current average of $13,235 sits slightly below last year's $13,566.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell later. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing discipline matters: a clean, well-equipped MKZ should still attract interest, but you may need to price it competitively to move it quickly.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns five-star ratings from both NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though both organizations also gave it second-best scores in their total front-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset test, respectively.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The MKZ can be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection, and it includes MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit use for a second driver. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available through the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability.

That means the MKZ can be well equipped for safety, but you should verify which driver-assistance features are actually installed on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned front end, an exclusive 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the upgraded Sync 3 infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, features, and updated tech in this generation, the 2017 is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, a different nearby year may be worth a look, but you’ll want to compare equipment carefully because this model year’s redesign and feature upgrades are a big part of its appeal.
