CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lincoln MKZ
overall

Summary
With 439 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,714, 30.8% of 2017 Lincoln MKZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lincoln MKZ 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
59.9% of 2017 MKZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a redesigned entry-level luxury sedan that brings more power, a new engine, and an impressive list of standard equipment. Lincoln also gave it a new front end and the new Sync 3 infotainment system, which is described as a big upgrade over the outgoing version. For shoppers drawn to comfort and value, the MKZ’s appeal is clear: it aims to offer a long list of features that would cost more from the competition, while also delivering the luxury feel many owners appreciate.
Its headline mechanical change is an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the summary points to a 400-hp engine as a major reason the car can compete more aggressively in the luxury sedan segment. At the same time, the MKZ’s long-running connection to the Ford Fusion and resistance to Lincoln’s split-wing grille have been part of its challenge in winning over loyalists from German and Japanese rivals. Some owners also note gaps in available advanced safety equipment, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring, so the MKZ’s strengths are strongest when judged as a comfort- and feature-focused luxury sedan rather than a fully loaded technology showcase.

Beautiful inside and out. Comfortable and quite ride. Tremendous power and pickup. Feather touch gas pedal and powerful V-6 sends you flying down the road. This roomy AWD sedan handles like a sports car. Lots of leg room even for passengers in the back. Navigation system with Bluetooth that lets you connect your cell for handsfree calling. Loaded with safety features with a 5-star safety rating. Blind spot detection, brake assist, lane assist, collision avoidance system, backup camera, and parking assist. Auto dim for the side and rearview mirrors. Memory for three driver seat and mirror settings.

I ended up purchasing this vehicle and it’s great. Very luxurious and fun to drive. The 3.0 V6 is worth the extra money over the 2.0 I4. Has a lot of nice features and super comfortable. Also is a great deal. I love my MKZ and love driving it

This is a beautiful car inside and out. It has every extra feature you could possibly want and more. It is a great highway road trip car, the level of comfort is superior from the heated and ventilated seats to the spaciousness provided in every zone. The ride is so smooth you dont even realize youre in a car. The power under the hood is also surprising. It may not look like it but you could keep up with or even surpass many sports cars. Also, I hit a deer and the car held up remarkably well, although I do not recommend doing so in yours should you buy one. Overall 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, comfort, and value for money, along with the smooth ride and strong performance. The overview also points to a long list of standard equipment and a comfort-focused luxury-sedan mission, which fits shoppers who want features and refinement without stretching into pricier rivals.
With 30.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to find a compelling value.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfort, smoothness, and value over time. The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the MKZ as a solid choice for buyers who want luxury and value, and the cost-effectiveness commentary suggests it can make sense versus many rivals.
Lincoln also highlights a lowered APR through its financing arm, which can help reduce ownership cost if you’re buying used and planning to finance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the car was maintained well and equipped the way you want, since some desirable features were optional.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or if the seller can’t clearly document repairs. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and whether the equipment you want was actually installed, since some of the MKZ’s most desirable tech and safety items were optional.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Premiere trim gets front-wheel drive, an adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED tail lights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the Sync 3 infotainment system on an 8-inch touchscreen. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors with an auto-dimming driver’s mirror, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus Package content, a power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Black Label sits above those trims with upgraded leather and wood trim.
- Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic, while the bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 brings much stronger output and can be paired with AWD and torque vectoring. The 2.0-liter is described as smooth and fun to drive, while the V6 is the performance standout.
- Safety package: The Select Plus Package adds navigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of these features are not standard, so check carefully if they matter to you.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as fast, intuitive, and a major upgrade over the previous setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD model is rated at 24 mpg combined, with 21 city and 31 highway. AWD drops to 23 combined, with 21 city and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined in FWD form and 20 combined with AWD. The hybrid is rated at 40 mpg combined, with 41 city and 38 highway.
Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, Black Label.
Here's the short version:
- Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong equipment list, including Sync 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension, and dual-zone climate control. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and still want the core MKZ experience.
- Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, more seat and cabin adjustments, ambient lighting, and useful convenience upgrades. If you want the MKZ to feel more like a true luxury sedan without jumping too far in price, this is the one to target.
- Reserve: This trim adds the Select Plus Package content, a power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and ventilated front seats. It’s the right pick if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
- Black Label: This top trim adds upgraded leather and wood trim and sits above the rest as the most luxurious version. It suits you if cabin presentation matters more than value.
The safety-package content makes the Select Plus and Technology Package combinations especially worth checking, since some of the MKZ’s most desirable driver-assistance features were not standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 444 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,801, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $13,821 sits slightly below last year's $13,882.
That small decline suggests the MKZ has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply. For a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern usually points to a market that is stable but not especially hot, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns five-star ratings from both NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though both organizations gave it second-best scores in frontal crash protection and the small-overlap frontal-offset test.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ includes MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit vehicle use for a second driver, and it can be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection. The available Technology Package also adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability.
The main caveat is that some advanced safety features were optional rather than standard, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance equipment is on the car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings a redesigned front end, Sync 3, and an exclusive 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and updated features, the 2017 is the right place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on well-equipped examples with clean history and the safety options you want.
