What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?

At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional driver-assistance equipment. Focus on overall condition, evidence of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want were actually installed on the car you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premiere trim gets the basics, including Sync 3 on an 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition. Higher trims add leather upholstery, more seat adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, a 110-volt outlet, ventilated front seats, and a power trunk, while the top trim can be optioned with upgraded lighting and a premium stereo.
• Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and is described as smooth and fun to drive. A bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 is available for much stronger performance, and the hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor and CVT for better efficiency.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is part of the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as fast and intuitive, and it’s a major upgrade over the previous setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD model is rated at 24 mpg combined, 21 city, and 31 highway, while AWD drops to 23 combined, 21 city, and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined with FWD and 20 combined with AWD, and the hybrid returns 40 mpg combined, 41 city, and 38 highway.

Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, and Black Label.

Here's the short version:

• Premiere: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with Sync 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition. It makes sense if you want the MKZ’s core comfort and tech without stretching the budget.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, more seat adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. It also opens the door to the most useful option packages, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Reserve: This trim builds on the Select with the features from the Select Plus Package, plus a power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and ventilated front seats. It’s the right pick if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Black Label: This is the top-tier edition with upgraded leather and wood trim and additional theme-based customization. It suits you if you want the most distinctive and luxurious MKZ presentation.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are tied to the Select Plus Package, while the more advanced driver-assistance features come with the Technology Package.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 424 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.78% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,801, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?

The current average of $13,311 sits slightly below last year's $13,692.

That tells you the market has eased, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future value, the softer pricing trend suggests you should focus on buying well rather than expecting appreciation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns a five-star overall safety rating from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though both organizations gave it second-best scores in front-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The MKZ includes standard safety equipment plus MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit use for a second driver. It can also be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection. Some advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify whether a specific used example has the safety package you want.

Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned front end, an exclusive 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the Sync 3 infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2017 MKZ is the right choice if you want the redesigned look, strong standard equipment, and a comfort-first luxury sedan with solid owner approval. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-kept example with the options you want, since the market includes a meaningful number of accident-free listings and some attractive deals.
