Is the 2017 Lexus IS a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the 2017 Lexus IS backs that up with a compact luxury sports sedan formula that emphasizes driving feel and premium equipment. It received revised front and rear styling, a larger infotainment system, and a redesigned center console, while still keeping the cabin centered around the driver.

It also comes standard with Lexus Safety System+, and the feature set includes passive entry, push-button start, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a power moonroof, and a 13-speaker premium audio system. The tradeoff is that the back seat is really tight, so this is a better fit if you value a sporty, upscale daily driver more than family-friendly space.

29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 Lexus IS is presented as a premium compact sedan with a strong emphasis on driving feel and a well-equipped cabin, and it also includes Lexus Safety System+ as standard. That combination points to a car built to deliver a polished ownership experience while keeping safety and convenience front and center.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the car’s core appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus IS?

At 41.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or shows signs of cosmetic or structural repair.

Focus your attention on overall condition, panel fit, interior wear, and how well the electronics and infotainment features work, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on a premium feel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus IS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 568 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 41.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,094, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $20,316 sits slightly below last year's $21,039.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean a future seller has less room to count on appreciation. If you plan to resell later, condition and mileage will matter a lot, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to compare examples closely.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 41.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, available inventory, and the updated 2017 feature set, this model year makes sense as the primary choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2017’s refreshed styling and standard safety equipment.
