How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 8.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,276 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride and stylish interior, and comfort comes up often as a major strength. The V6 engine also gets positive attention for its power, while the Sorento’s overall balance and refinement make it appealing if you want a well-rounded midsize SUV rather than a vehicle focused on one standout trait.

The Sorento is especially compelling if you want a family-friendly crossover with upscale touches, strong value, and broad everyday usability. Even so, the third row is often described as cramped and not very accessible, so it fits you best if you care more about comfort and balance than maximum passenger space.

Good and great deals account for 33.8% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable, with praise centered on comfort, smooth driving manners, and a generally satisfying ownership experience. The review summary also highlights that many owners appreciate the Sorento’s overall balance, which is often a good sign for long-term confidence.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the Sorento as engineered to exceed demanding warranty coverage, which supports the case for durability-minded shoppers. It also notes that Kia has built its vehicles to exceed its warranty programs, a useful ownership signal if you plan to keep the SUV for a while.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a few owners reported occasional engine issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because some owners mentioned occasional engine issues, it also makes sense to focus on maintenance records and a careful mechanical check. If you’re considering a higher-mileage example, pay extra attention to how the transmission, brakes, and suspension feel on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L to SX Limited, and the base L is the most stripped-down version. The safety content shows that the basic L misses out on several driver-assistance features that are available on the other trims, so higher trims are better if you want more standard protection and convenience.
• Powertrain: You can get a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, or a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6. The V6 is the strongest choice and can tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the turbo four-cylinder offers a useful middle ground.
• Safety package: The available suite includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6, and the 360-degree surround-view camera is exclusive to the SX Limited. The basic L trim misses the main driver-assistance systems.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions and supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, Pandora, Yelp, and connected services. The system uses a logically arranged interface and physical knobs, though the display is described as needing to be larger and more modern.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with all-wheel drive is expected to return 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 19.4 mpg on the review loop.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it is the least appealing if you want the Sorento’s best safety and convenience content. It also lacks the available all-wheel-drive option, so it makes the most sense only if your budget is tight and you’re comfortable with a simpler setup.
• LX: This is the first trim that starts to make the Sorento feel more complete, especially if you want a practical family SUV without jumping too far up the price ladder. It can be a smart value choice if you want access to more equipment than the L without going all the way to the premium trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it gets the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and opens the door to the stronger V6. It also sits in the sweet spot for buyers who want a more satisfying powertrain and a richer feature mix without paying for the top-end luxury touches.
• SX: This trim brings the V6 as standard, so it suits you if you want stronger performance and a more upscale feel without stretching to the most expensive version.
• SX Limited: This is the most luxurious and fully equipped Sorento, with premium cabin materials and the most exclusive equipment, including the surround-view camera. It makes the most sense if you want the most refined version and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, while the basic L misses several of the available driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,276 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,996, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $10,996 sits slightly below last year's $12,021.

That softer pricing suggests the Sorento has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays closer to the top of the range.

The model’s broad appeal helps support resale, especially because shoppers tend to respond well to its comfort, value, and overall balance. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand steady when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns Top Safety Pick+ status from the IIHS and a five-star crash test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The available safety suite includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the LX V6, and the 360-degree surround-view camera is reserved for the SX Limited. The basic L trim does not get the full set of driver-assistance features.

That means the Sorento is strongest if you shop beyond the base trim, especially if you want the most complete safety package for family use.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for its broad appeal across styling, comfort, safety, value, and driving dynamics.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,885, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,996 average.
• It offers a more upscale appearance and a refined interior.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2017 is the better primary target because it combines strong owner satisfaction, excellent expert scores, and a softer market price. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is worth a look because it costs less and still brings a refined, upgraded feel.
