CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 71 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,406, 25.4% of 2017 Ford Edge listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Edge 4.43 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
90.1% of 2017 Ford Edge listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Edge stands out as a well-sized crossover that sits between the smaller Ford Escape and the larger Explorer and Flex. It offers seating for five passengers, ample cargo room, and storage cubbies galore, making it easy to live with for busy families. Ford also gives it sleek, attractive styling, though it is not meant to be a dramatic or especially eye-catching crossover.
What makes the 2017 Ford Edge appealing is its practical, family-first character. It is described as a manageable-size vehicle that is happy serving as a family car rather than pretending to be a weekend off-road warrior. That focus on everyday usefulness, along with its roomy interior and useful storage, gives it broad appeal. At the same time, it is not presented as a standout in visual drama, so buyers drawn to bold styling may find it more restrained than they want.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

With 1,849 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Edge earns a 4.43/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, and comfort, and many also call out the well-appointed features and smooth ride. The Edge’s family-first layout and manageable size fit buyers who want a practical crossover with useful cargo space and easy day-to-day livability.
The market also shows 32.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle many owners found reliable, dependable, and trouble-free over the long term, even though some noted early mechanical problems and engine issues. The expert evaluation also describes the Edge as a composed, confidence-inspiring crossover with a solid ride and good braking, which supports the sense that it’s built to be counted on.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure any reported engine or mechanical concerns have been properly addressed before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower price than the rest of the market. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the trim you’re shopping.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch screen, and a reversing camera, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The SEL brings available heated power seats, dual-zone climate control, navigation, remote start, a hands-free liftgate, and blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert. The Titanium adds leather-trimmed heated seats, memory seating, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, and more advanced convenience features. The Sport stands apart with its unique engine, sport-tuned suspension, adaptive steering, and 20-inch wheels.
- Powertrain: The lineup starts with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The SEL and Titanium can also be had with a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The Sport uses a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, making it the strongest and most responsive choice.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags and a reversing camera, while higher trims can add blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, a 180-degree front camera with washer, and inflatable rear safety belts. Many of those features require stepping up from the base model.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses Sync with a 4.2-inch color LCD screen, voice recognition, and a single USB port. Sync 3 upgrades you to an 8-inch touchscreen with two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and it can be paired with available premium audio systems.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is EPA-estimated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with FWD and auto start-stop is EPA-estimated at 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials at the lowest price, including the base EcoBoost engine, Sync, and a reversing camera. It makes sense if you want the Edge’s space and practicality without paying for extras, but it’s the least equipped version.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a much better mix of comfort and convenience, including available heated power seats, dual-zone climate control, Sync 3, navigation, remote start, and blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert. If you want the sweet spot in the lineup, this is the one to focus on.
- Titanium: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale cabin, with standard leather-trimmed heated seats, memory seating, Sync 3, two USB ports, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. It’s the right pick if interior refinement matters more than keeping the price down.
- Sport: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the most powerful engine, adaptive steering, a sport-tuned suspension, and 20-inch wheels. Choose it if driving enjoyment matters most and you’re willing to pay more for it.
Safety features such as blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning are concentrated in higher trims rather than the base model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,849 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,014, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,030 sits slightly below last year's $13,077.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper future resale gains if you plan to sell later. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit when you eventually trade it in or list it privately. The strongest resale prospects will usually come from well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The 2017 Ford Edge earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance, and the IIHS rated it Good in all crash tests except small front overlap, where it received an Acceptable rating.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Edge includes multiple airbags and available driver-assistance features such as lane-keep assist, a 180-degree front camera with washer, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and forward-collision warning. Those features are not all standard, so you’ll need to move up from the base trim if you want a fuller safety package.
One important caveat is that the Edge is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it lacks front crash-mitigation technology.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 Edge is a well-sized, family-first crossover with roomy seating for five and lots of cargo-friendly storage.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $10,734, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,030 average.
- It pairs a family-friendly shape with a twin-turbocharged V6 for stronger performance.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2017 is the stronger all-around choice because it combines a lower current average price, solid owner satisfaction, and broad everyday usefulness. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the better price-sensitive alternative, especially if you’re drawn to its more performance-focused character.
