Is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to a well-liked used sedan. Is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights dependability and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, and some owners specifically call out the car’s long-term value and smooth day-to-day use. That said, higher-mileage examples can carry more ownership risk, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Sonata?

At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any Sonata you’re seriously considering and confirm whether prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear, then make sure the car drives cleanly and feels consistent under braking, acceleration, and steering. Because this model year can attract value shoppers, the best examples are usually the ones with clear records and strong overall condition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $9,858, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $10,039 sits slightly below last year's $10,284.

That softer pricing suggests the Sonata is still accessible on the used market, but it also means future sellers may not see rapid appreciation. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect value, but the market is clearly rewarding shoppers more than sellers right now. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,148, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,039 average.
• It is a competent, well-rounded sedan with strong everyday value.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $11,854, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $10,039 average.
• It adds more technology and a broader, more modern-feeling feature set.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better primary pick if you want a balanced mix of price, features, and availability. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the smarter value play; if you want a newer-feeling Sonata and can spend more, the 2018 is worth a look.
