Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns 4.9/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, comfortable cabin, and practical cargo solutions, including the under-bed trunk. The Ridgeline’s carlike driving feel and spacious interior also come through as recurring positives, which fits its role as a pickup aimed at buyers who want utility without giving up everyday comfort.

With its truck usefulness and distinctly carlike character, it makes the most sense if you value comfort and practicality together more than traditional truck toughness. 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the Ridgeline as a vehicle they can count on for everyday use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its solid, carlike road manners and the sense that Honda engineered it to handle pickup duties without feeling rough or compromised.

Honda’s performance notes reinforce that impression by highlighting precise shifting and a drivetrain built to handle robust pickup use. The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the Ridgeline’s everyday utility features make it a practical long-term choice for buyers who want comfort and usefulness in one package.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the truck’s specific configuration and equipment match your needs, since it was designed around a narrower set of uses than many rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the bed, cab, or side panels, since the Ridgeline’s body structure and packaging make condition especially important. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on how the truck drives on pavement, whether the cabin and cargo features work properly, and whether any repairs were done cleanly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with soft-touch materials where they matter. Base trims are less richly equipped than top trims, which add extra noise-canceling insulation and more premium comfort touches.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the AWD system adds torque-vectoring capability and selectable drive modes for different surfaces.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
• Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is EPA-rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD drops to 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• RT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core formula: V6 power, Crew cab packaging, and the truck’s smooth, carlike ride. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model and do not need the richer comfort and tech upgrades found higher up.
• RTS: This trim adds more equipment than the RT while staying on the value side of the lineup. It is a sensible step up if you want a better-balanced mix of features without jumping too far in price.
• Sport: The Sport trim is the better pick if you want a more style-focused version with a stronger visual presence. It suits buyers who care about appearance and everyday usability more than luxury touches.
• RTL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you into a more upscale experience without pushing all the way to the top of the range. It is the trim to target if you want a more comfortable, better-equipped Ridgeline for daily use.
• RTL-T: This trim adds more equipment and is a good fit if you want a richer feature set and are willing to pay for it. It sits in the middle of the lineup for buyers who want more convenience and refinement.
• RTL-E: This is the trim to choose if you want the most advanced capability and equipment, and it is one of the trims where AWD is standard. It also gets the higher-end safety and convenience content that helps define the Ridgeline’s upper end.
• Black Edition: This is the top trim and the most fully loaded version, with the most premium presentation and the extra comfort and tech touches described in the test drive. It is the right choice if you want the most upscale Ridgeline experience.

Honda Sensing is restricted to top trims, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, make sure the specific truck you are considering includes it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

The market looks moderate and selective, which means you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 503 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,444, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $18,444 sits slightly below last year's $19,833.

That decline suggests the Ridgeline is currently in a softer pricing environment, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect in the near term. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in clean condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays closer to the top of the range.

The model’s practical appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time, especially among shoppers who want comfort and utility in one package. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is expected to earn a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, though it has not yet been crash-tested.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available, and LaneWatch adds a live video feed of the right-side blind spot when the turn signal is engaged.

A key caveat is that those extra safety features are restricted to top trims, so lower trims may not include the same level of driver assistance.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 Ridgeline stands out because it is the industry’s only unibody pickup, blending truck utility with a carlike driving experience.

The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s distinctive comfort-first formula and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2017 is a strong choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market closely and compare condition, equipment, and accident history before deciding.
