Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the truck’s basic reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, and mechanical condition, especially if the truck has been used for hauling or towing. Focus on overall wear and maintenance records, since condition matters a lot when you’re shopping a work-oriented pickup.

That softer pricing suggests the Frontier is still a value-oriented used truck, which can help keep it attractive to budget-conscious shoppers. The current market also shows enough demand to support steady interest from future buyers.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,007, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,851 average.
• It stays close to the basics with a familiar, no-frills character.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value-first alternative.
