Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions, including the under-bed trunk. That lines up with the Ridgeline’s use case as a truck for you if you want utility without giving up a carlike driving experience. It also stands out for its everyday practicality and easy-to-live-with character.

The market shows 28.5% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, practicality, and the kind of everyday usability that makes the truck easy to count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s ability to make an unusual concept work well, which supports the impression of solid long-term execution.

Honda’s engineering approach here also favors durability-minded ownership, with a robust body structure and a cabin designed around real-world utility. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core truck and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been abused.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, bed area, and cabin condition so you can spot signs of prior damage or heavy use. Because this truck is often chosen for practicality, it’s worth checking that the cargo solutions, interior trim, and everyday convenience features all work as intended. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on condition first and equipment second.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with soft-touch materials where they matter. Base-trim examples may leave out some of the richer comfort and convenience touches found on higher trims, so you should compare interior finish and equipment carefully.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the truck is tuned more for smooth on-road driving than heavy-duty work.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
• Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom, voice recognition, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is EPA-rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD versions are rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• RT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core V6 powertrain and Crew cab layout at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the basic truck experience and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• RTS: This trim adds more comfort and convenience than the RT while staying on the affordable side of the lineup. It’s a sensible choice if you want a better-equipped daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more distinctive look and a little more presence without moving into the upper luxury-oriented trims. It’s a good middle-ground option if style matters to you.
• RTL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you into a more upscale cabin and a stronger overall equipment mix without pushing into the highest-priced versions. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to focus on.
• RTL-T: This trim builds on the RTL with more equipment and a more premium feel. It suits you if you want a richer feature set but still don’t need the top-end trims.
• RTL-E: This trim adds more advanced capability and is one of the trims where all-wheel drive is standard. It’s a strong pick if you want more of the Ridgeline’s available technology and traction hardware.
• Black Edition: This is the top trim and the most fully loaded version, with the most premium presentation and the richest feature content. It’s the right choice if you want the most upscale Ridgeline experience and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is available, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is restricted to top trims.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.98% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2017 Ridgeline is a strong choice if you want a comfortable, practical truck that feels more like a car than a traditional pickup. If you’re price-sensitive, you can also use the softer market and compare nearby model years, but the 2017 stands out for its distinctive formula and strong owner approval.
