Used 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback for Sale nearRockford, IL

How much does the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback cost?

Prices have softened 2.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 646 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback a good car?

Yes — the 4.56/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating both point to a strong all-around used-car choice. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, reliability, spacious interior, smooth driving experience, and stylish design. In practical terms, that lines up well with the hatchback’s extra cargo space and its appeal as a compact car that stays useful without losing its fun-to-drive character.

The market also shows healthy interest, with 32.2% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they can count on it for everyday use.

The expert evaluation reinforces that dependability angle by describing the Civic as a long-running, reliable nameplate and noting that the hatchback keeps the same practical, easygoing character. The cost-effectiveness discussion also points to long history of reliability and strong resale values.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core platform and more about condition-specific issues, so a careful inspection matters more than a broad reliability warning.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback?

At 50.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, interior wear, and any signs that the car has been modified or poorly repaired.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hatchback’s styling differs from the sedan and coupe, with blacked-out wheels and honeycomb trim unique to the hatch. The cabin is smartly laid out, uses quality materials, and offers strong cargo space, but the rear roofline gives it awkward proportions.
• Powertrain: The hatchback uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. LX, EX, and EX-L Navi trims make 174 hp, while Sport and Sport Touring trims increase output to 180 hp. A 6-speed manual is standard on LX and Sport, while the CVT is optional on LX and Sport and required on EX, EX-L Navi, and Sport Touring.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing adds collision-mitigation braking, lane-keep assist, and active cruise control that works at low speeds. It is standard on Sport Touring and costs extra on EX-L Navi. LaneWatch is another available blind-spot aid.
• Infotainment: The hatchback can be equipped with a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX-L Navi and Sport Touring add navigation. Manual-transmission cars miss out on the better tech and get a much simpler setup.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L Navi, Sport, Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hatchback body, the 1.5-liter turbo engine, and the standard 6-speed manual. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up the richer tech and convenience features found higher up.
• EX: This trim adds more everyday convenience and requires the CVT. It’s a good fit if you want a more relaxed automatic setup and a better-equipped cabin without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• EX-L Navi: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest mix of comfort and technology. It adds navigation and can be paired with Honda Sensing for an extra cost, making it the trim to target if you want a well-rounded hatchback.
• Sport: This trim is the one to choose if you care most about the more energetic feel. It gets the higher-output version of the turbo engine and keeps the manual transmission standard, which makes it the most engaging pick for drivers.
• Sport Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, and it includes Honda Sensing as standard. Choose it if you want the most complete feature set and don’t mind paying for the top trim.

Honda Sensing is standard on the Sport Touring and optional on the EX-L Navi.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting deep discounts on every listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 646 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 50.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,679, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $16,244 sits slightly below last year's $16,738.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, the current trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, but the model’s broad appeal should help support steady demand.

Its strong owner satisfaction rating also helps. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the Civic sedan is rated a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes collision-mitigation braking, lane-keep assist, and active cruise control that can follow traffic at low speeds. It is standard on the Sport Touring and available on the EX-L Navi for an extra cost.

A useful caveat is that the hatchback-specific IIHS rating is not listed, so the strongest cited independent result comes from the Civic sedan rather than this exact body style.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out as the first Civic Hatchback Honda sold in the U.S. since 2005, with extra cargo space and sport-oriented tweaks that make it especially appealing if you want practicality with personality.

The bottom line: If you want the hatchback body style, strong owner satisfaction, and a used market that has eased a bit, the 2017 is a sensible buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping listings carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example you can find, since condition and history matter a lot in this market.
