What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment and safety features work as expected. If you’re considering a higher-mileage example, pay close attention to how the drivetrain and electronics feel in everyday use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SL trim brings a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, but you need to move up for AWD and more convenience features.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is the efficiency play, while the 3.6-liter V6 adds more power and stronger acceleration; both use a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
• Infotainment: The Acadia uses Intellilink with a 7-inch screen on lower trims and an 8-inch screen in the Denali, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OTA capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in FWD form, while the AWD V6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway for 21 combined.

Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value entry point if you want the lowest price and still want a surprisingly complete feature set, including CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and tri-zone climate control.
• SLE1: Choose this if you want AWD availability and a few extra convenience touches, including LED running lights and satellite radio.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and second-row captain’s chairs.
• SLT1: Step here if you want a more upscale cabin and the Driver Alert 1 package, which adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
• SLT2: This is the better pick if you want more advanced safety and luxury, including the Driver Alert II package, heated second-row seats, 20-inch wheels, and a trailering package.
• Denali: Buy this if you want the most premium Acadia, with the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, and the optional Technology package with surround-view camera and adaptive cruise.

For safety-focused shoppers, the lower trims miss some of the more advanced driver-assistance features, so moving up the range can make a meaningful difference.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,929 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,074, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $13,110 sits slightly below last year's $14,666.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings when it’s time to trade or sell. The good news is that the Acadia’s broad appeal as a family SUV can still support demand if your vehicle is clean, well maintained, and properly equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2017 GMC Acadia earns five-star frontal crash ratings from NHTSA and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Acadia includes GM’s Teen Driver technology, plus standard 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and a full airbag suite with front, side, curtain, driver’s knee, and inboard driver’s seat airbags. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The Denali’s optional Technology package adds a surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed automatic braking.

The main caveat is that the redesign lost some of the stronger all-around crash performance seen in the prior model year, so safety-conscious shoppers should pay close attention to trim level and available driver-assistance equipment.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 redesign cuts weight and adds a new 4-cylinder engine for better efficiency and a more modern feel.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,398, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $13,110 average.
• It broadens V6 availability to more trims, which helps if you want stronger towing and everyday drivability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it’s cheaper and still well liked by owners. If you’re willing to spend more for easier access to V6 power, the 2018 is the better path, especially if you want a stronger all-around setup and can justify the higher asking price.
