How much does the 2017 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 6.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,967 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive features, and many also like its power and handling. That makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize SUV that balances family-friendly space with more engaging road manners. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as smooth, spacious, and impressive in everyday use, and many say they appreciate how dependable it feels over time. The recurring praise for comfort and power suggests a vehicle that owners can count on for regular family duty. For used buyers, that kind of satisfaction can reduce long-term ownership risk, especially if the specific vehicle has been well maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, alignment, tires, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision issues. It also helps to focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a clean, well-kept SUV from one that has simply been priced attractively.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,967 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,399, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $13,399 sits slightly below last year's $14,310.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and mileage will matter even more because buyers will likely compare your Explorer against a large pool of similar listings. Strong demand for well-kept examples should still support value better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,675, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $13,399 average.
• The 2016 got a refresh with updated styling, more features, and a new Platinum trim.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value-focused alternative.
