I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Edge earns a 4.43/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, and comfort, and many also call out the well-appointed features and smooth ride. The Edge’s family-friendly layout and practical cargo space fit shoppers who want a crossover that balances comfort with everyday usability. It also lands in the middle of the lineup, which makes it appealing if you want a well-rounded choice rather than the most stripped-down or most expensive version.
30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable and trouble-free overall, and many say it offers a lot to count on for the price. The expert evaluation also points to a composed, dependable driving experience with a good fit between the transmission and the rest of the powertrain. The value-oriented maintenance note is another plus for ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some owners reported engine issues, so a careful mechanical inspection matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the interior and electronics match the seller’s description. Because some listings have accident history, condition and documentation matter more than usual.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model comes with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch screen, and a reversing camera, while higher trims add better materials, more convenience features, and more advanced safety equipment.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, a 3.5-liter V6, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower; the base setup is the most efficient, while the Sport is the most powerful.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera; many of these are reserved for higher trims.
- Infotainment: Base models use a 4.2-inch screen with Sync, while Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and improved usability.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is rated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with front-wheel drive can reach 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the value entry point, but it lacks the richer materials, larger touchscreen, and advanced safety and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best balance for most shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades without pushing into the highest price territory.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the best choice if you want the most upscale cabin, standard Sync 3, and the strongest mix of comfort and technology.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the performance pick, but its stronger engine and available extras can push ownership costs higher than most daily drivers need.
The safety package expands as you move up the lineup, so if advanced driver-assistance features matter to you, avoid the base trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep discounts on every listing.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,902 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.92% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,272.45, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,543 sits slightly below last year's $13,332.
That softer pricing suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost can also make it easier to stay competitive when you eventually list the vehicle again. Strong demand for a roomy, comfortable crossover should help support resale interest, especially for well-kept examples.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The Ford Edge earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and an Acceptable result in small front overlap from IIHS.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Edge includes available lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. Multiple airbags are standard, and higher trims unlock more of the advanced safety equipment. The main caveat is that the model is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it lacks front crash-mitigation technology.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 stands out for its roomy cabin, strong available V6 power, and family-friendly practicality.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,253, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,543 average.
- It emphasizes performance, comfort, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, comfort, and available features, the 2017 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers a similar family-oriented formula.
