What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Dodge Charger?

At 47.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs of heavy use, since those areas matter most on a performance-oriented sedan. If the car has the optional equipment you want, confirm that everything works as expected before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Daytona treatment adds SRT-derived design details, a Daytona grille badge, a cold-air induction system with a functional hood scoop, heritage-inspired graphics, a Satin Black roof and rear spoiler treatment, wider 20-inch aluminum wheels, and fender decals on the 392 models. The interior adds Daytona-embroidered performance seats, premium Nappa leather with Alcantara suede inserts, a performance steering wheel with die-cast paddle shifters, and real aluminum trim. The base setup is less richly equipped, so the Daytona versions are the ones to target if you want the most distinctive look and feel.
• Powertrain: A 6.4-liter V8 sends 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic with an electronic limited-slip differential. The setup is described as blisteringly quick, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of about 4.5 seconds and quarter-mile runs in the low 12s.
• Safety package: The Driver Confidence Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and HID headlights. Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, and optional driver aids include adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The Charger uses an 8.4-inch Uconnect system with upgraded graphics, quick startup, pinch-and-swipe controls, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a free 6-month Uconnect Access trial. That subscription adds voice texting, remote start, remote door locking, and a vehicle finder, while a 3G Wi-Fi hotspot is also available through the service.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is EPA-rated at 15 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined. The cost-effectiveness notes also say you should plan for premium fuel and higher running costs.

Which 2017 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2017 Dodge Charger is offered in 2 trim levels: Daytona 392 and Daytona.

Here's the short version:

• Daytona: This is the more accessible Daytona version, and it brings the special-edition styling, performance-oriented exterior details, and interior upgrades that make the car feel special without going all the way to the more powerful setup. It suits you if you want the look and character of the Daytona package with a lower entry point.
• Daytona 392: This is the best-value trim if you want the full performance experience, since it adds the 6.4-liter V8, the stronger braking hardware, and the most dramatic driving character. It is the one to choose if you care most about acceleration, sound, and track-ready capability.

The safety content notes that the Charger gets high crashworthiness marks overall, but the IIHS gives it a Marginal result in the small offset frontal-impact test.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Charger?

This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,121 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.96% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 47.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,163, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $18,336 sits slightly above last year's $17,809.

That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay a bit more for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The year-round range also shows that pricing has stayed fairly tight, so well-kept examples should remain competitive. Strong demand for the Charger’s performance image and distinctive styling should help support future resale interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2017 Dodge Charger earns high marks from both NHTSA and IIHS, though the IIHS gives it a Marginal rating in the small offset frontal-impact test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and 911 Call through Uconnect Access for emergency assistance. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The IIHS small offset result is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.96% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 adds a next-generation Uconnect system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more modern connectivity.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,468, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $18,336 average.
• It offers a more understated, surprisingly satisfying family-sedan character.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $18,864, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $18,336 average.
• It adds available all-wheel drive and a broader mix of modern tech and trims.

The bottom line: If you want the 2017 Charger’s mix of bold personality, strong performance, and updated tech, it’s the right year to target. If price matters most, the 2016 is the value play; if you want more modern breadth and available all-wheel drive, the 2018 is worth a look.
