CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 536 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,561, 22.9% of 2014 Dodge Chargers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Dodge Charger 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
51.1% of 2014 Charger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Dodge Charger stands out by blending a bold, retro-inspired presence with a more sophisticated character than its styling might suggest. It makes a strong first impression as a large, muscular sedan, yet the source also notes that it is far more sophisticated than its retro shell may convey. That combination gives it a distinctive appeal for buyers who want something with attitude but not just surface-level style.
Performance is another major part of its identity. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is described as an award-winning powerplant, and it moves the 3,964-pound Charger quite quickly. The same source says the V6 Charger reaches 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which helps explain why it feels lively despite its size. At the same time, it is noted as not quite as powerful as the V8-powered R/T and SRT variants, so buyers looking at this version should understand that its strengths are more about balanced speed and everyday usability than maximum muscle.
Owners also tend to praise the 2014 Dodge Charger for its strong engine and smooth ride, and features such as the sunroof, heated seats, and Beats audio are recurring favorites. A common drawback mentioned is fuel economy, which some reviewers see as a downside.

I purchased a 2014 RT Plus AWD Charger with 67,000 miles. It required one $800 repair to a part of the engine performed expertly by AAMCO (forget about bringing it to the dealership to be repaired; youll only be ripped off.) The car served me very well until an accident at 82,000 miles without any other repairs. Ive seen Chargers for sale with up to 152,000 miles and still going. Its a great car if you can find one starting around the 70,000/80,000 mile range or less!

The car has great low mileage. The baby has some nicks and scratches, but nothing surprising for a 2014. The engine and undercarriage looks like show room material. After searching different web sites, I found this one to be the best value. It would be nice to have a sun roof, but I am pleased with its features. I would compare the 8 speed to a mustang or camaro.

Great car! I had the 2014 r/t All wheel drive. If I had it to do over, I never would’ve gotten rid of it. The only thing I was going to do is get leather done on the seats. Car always ran great and was very fun to drive.

Yes — the 2014 Dodge Charger earns a 4.78/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its strong engine, impressive power, and smooth ride, and they also call out the sunroof, heated seats, and Beats audio as favorites. Is the 2014 Dodge Charger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car people tend to enjoy and keep appreciating over time, especially for its strong engine, smooth ride, and overall driving enjoyment. The expert notes also describe the V6 as an award-winning powerplant and emphasize that it moves the Charger quickly, which supports the sense that the car is built to deliver dependable everyday performance.
The cost-effectiveness commentary also suggests the Charger’s LED lighting should last a long time, which is a small but useful ownership plus. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a performance-oriented sedan can bring higher running costs if you choose a more powerful version.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?
At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or has higher mileage. Focus on body condition, evidence of prior repairs, and whether the features and driver-assistance systems work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE includes standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack, while the SXT adds a more upscale presentation and more features.
- Powertrain: The base V6 with an 8-speed automatic is described as surprisingly quick, and the lineup also includes rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, plus V8 options for buyers who want more power.
- Safety package: Available driver aids include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and a rear cross-path warning system. The base setup includes standard airbags and traction control.
- Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is presented as easy to use, and the car can be equipped with Beats audio and Bluetooth smartphone connectivity.
- Fuel efficiency: The base rear-wheel-drive V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city and 27 highway, while V6 models with the 8-speed automatic achieve 19/31. The all-wheel-drive SXT with the 8-speed automatic is estimated at 18/27.
Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core style plus standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack.
- SXT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Charger’s personality with more everyday appeal. It adds the more polished feel highlighted in the test drive, and the available all-wheel-drive setup and 8-speed automatic make it a strong fit if you want balanced performance and usability.
- R/T: Choose this if you want the V8 experience. It brings the 5.7-liter V8 and a much stronger performance focus, but you should expect a bigger fuel penalty.
- SRT: This is the top performance trim, powered by a 392-cubic-inch V8 and aimed at buyers who want the most aggressive version of the Charger.
The safety content also notes that advanced driver-assistance features are available, so make sure the specific trim you’re considering has the equipment you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Charger?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to create opportunities.
- Deal availability: 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 534 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,420, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Dodge Charger’s resale value?
The current average of $10,527 sits slightly below last year's $11,125.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry price. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your upside depends more on buying well than on expecting appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still attract attention, especially because the Charger has a strong enthusiast following.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?
The 2014 Dodge Charger earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety package includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and a rear cross-path warning system, along with standard airbags and traction control. The backup camera is also highlighted for its large, crisp display, which should make parking and reversing easier.
One caveat is that the forward warning system can be oversensitive, so you may need to get used to its alerts. The Charger’s size also adds a sense of security, but you should still verify that every safety feature works properly on the used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 combines bold styling with a sophisticated feel and a quick V6 that makes it lively in daily driving.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,872, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,527 average.
- It brings a sleeker front, a brighter rear end, and a more aggressive look.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it offers strong owner satisfaction, a lower average price, and plenty of inventory to compare. If you’re willing to pay more for a fresher look and a slightly more aggressive design, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
