Why it stands out
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica stands out as a fresh start for Chrysler’s minivan lineup. It is described as a new name ushering in a new era, and Chrysler says it is an entirely new platform from the ground up. The company also invested $2 billion to make sure it had a cutting-edge entrant in the minivan market, which helps explain why the Pacifica feels like more than just a routine redesign.
What makes the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica appealing is the way it reflects how far minivans have come. The source emphasizes that modern minivan ownership now includes the latest in-car technology, along with innovations that are unique to the minivan market. That combination gives the Pacifica a strong family-friendly appeal, and owner feedback reinforces that impression by praising its spaciousness, safety features, smooth performance, advanced technology, and entertainment options.
At the same time, it is not presented as perfect. Some owners report problems with the center console storage and ongoing reliability issues that can lead to expensive repairs. Even so, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica’s distinctive value lies in its blend of modern design, family-focused practicality, and the sense that Chrysler was trying to make a minivan feel genuinely contemporary.

I originally loved all the amazing features of this van. However, this quickly deteriorated as it continually needed trips to the shop and left me stranded multiple times. Each time we went to the shop it was over $500 in repairs. We will not be purchasing a Chrysler anytime in the future.

Top feature is crash protection for you and your family. My wife was hit by a stolen car being chased by the police at high speed. She was T-boned and hardly felt the impact. Yes, her car was totaled but no one was injured. She loves gadgets and this car is loaded. We just learned how to let the car park itself. WOW! We are a retired couple and got the 8th seat because we are enjoying our grandchildren during our retirement. We replaced the 2017 with a new Pacifica and love the luxury of it. We had a rental and I was amazed at how spoiled I had become with the handling of the Pacifica.

Rides nice & design of space is brilliant! But the best reason for a 5 start is it saved our lives in an accident the handling of this vehicle cant be compared. This is probably THE safest vehicle there is!

Is the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica a good car?
Generally — 4.3/5 from owners points to strong shopper satisfaction for this minivan. The expert rating is 8/10, and the model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.
Owners repeatedly praise the spacious cabin, safety features, smooth performance, advanced technology, and entertainment options. That lines up well with the Pacifica’s family-first mission in the overview, where it’s presented as a modern minivan built around practicality and contemporary features.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica reliable?
Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a generally dependable, trouble-free experience for many shoppers, especially when you value the Pacifica’s spaciousness and family-friendly usability.
The expert drive notes reinforce that this is a minivan built to feel modern and capable, with smooth performance and a platform Chrysler treated as a clean-sheet redesign. The cost-effectiveness commentary also frames it as a vehicle meant to serve as a mobile base of operations, which fits the kind of long-term ownership many minivan buyers expect.
At the same time, owner feedback mentions ongoing reliability problems and expensive repairs, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and any signs of deferred upkeep.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chrysler Pacifica?
At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on condition inside the cabin as well as mechanical health, since family use can leave behind more wear than the photos show. It’s also smart to confirm that the features you care about are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX comes with Bluetooth hands-free calling, a ParkView backup camera, Stow-N-Go seating, active noise cancelation, and the smaller Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen. Touring L adds leather seats, a power rear liftgate, and heated rear seats, while Touring L Plus adds the Uconnect Theater with rear touchscreens and media inputs. Limited brings front-seat ventilation, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, a built-in vacuum, and 20-inch wheels.
- Powertrain: The Pacifica uses a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 287 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. EPA estimates are 18 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined.
- Safety package: The available SafetyTec Package adds blind-spot monitoring, ParkSense, and rear cross-path detection. The Advanced SafetyTec Package adds a 360-degree surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist, but it is available only on Touring L Plus and Limited.
- Infotainment: The base LX uses the smaller Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen. The larger Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen is optional on Touring L Plus and standard on Limited, and it brings a more customizable interface. Uconnect Theater is standard on Touring L Plus and optional on Limited.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 18 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined.
Which 2017 Chrysler Pacifica trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Touring, Touring L, Touring L Plus, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Pacifica’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get Stow-N-Go seating, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a backup camera, active noise cancelation, and the smaller Uconnect touchscreen.
- Touring: This trim is the next step up in price, but the source does not call out a distinct equipment advantage over the LX, so it makes the least compelling case on the information provided.
- Touring L: This is the trim that adds a more upscale feel with leather seats, a power rear liftgate, and heated rear seats. It’s a sensible middle ground if you want more comfort without jumping all the way to the top.
- Touring L Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want the family-friendly tech upgrade. It adds Uconnect Theater, rear-seat entertainment, and access to the Advanced SafetyTec Package, which makes it especially appealing for long trips and safety-minded buyers.
- Limited: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with front-seat ventilation, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, a built-in vacuum, 20-inch wheels, and the standard larger Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen.
The Advanced SafetyTec Package is available only on Touring L Plus and Limited, so those trims are the ones to target if you want the fullest safety feature set.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chrysler Pacifica?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,912 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,915.20, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica's resale value?
The current average of $11,960 sits slightly below last year's $12,950.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For future resale, the key question is how well the van is maintained, because condition and feature content will matter a lot when you eventually sell. A well-kept Pacifica with desirable equipment should still attract family buyers who value space and convenience.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
All models come standard with a full array of front and side impact airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a standard backup camera. The available SafetyTec Package adds blind-spot monitoring, ParkSense, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced SafetyTec Package adds a 360-degree surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
That advanced package is only available on Touring L Plus and Limited, so buyers of lower trims will need to step up if they want the most comprehensive driver-assistance setup. The expert notes also flag lane-keeping assist behavior as a bit unusual, so that’s worth testing on a drive if you’re considering a higher trim with the package.
Should I buy a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 model is presented as a clean-sheet redesign on a new platform, with Chrysler investing heavily to make it a modern minivan.
The bottom line: If you want the freshest-feeling version of this generation and you value the Pacifica’s modern design, family-friendly packaging, and strong feature set, the 2017 is a good place to focus. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year and target the lower end of the market, especially if you find a well-kept example with the equipment you want.
