Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.2/5 user rating, which points to broad owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its power, comfortable cabin, and decent fuel efficiency, and many also like the truck’s spaciousness and feature set. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size pickup that balances work-ready capability with everyday usability. With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Review feedback also leans toward dependable ownership, with many drivers describing it as a reliable choice for a full-size truck and noting its comfortable, trouble-free feel in everyday use. That said, some owners mention rust concerns and pricing frustrations, so a used example can still vary a lot by condition and maintenance. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a truck with hidden wear or deferred service rather than assuming every example will age the same way.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who can check for body repairs, rust, and signs of hard use. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and how the truck drives, since those details matter more when you are shopping a used full-size pickup. If anything feels inconsistent, move on to a cleaner example.

If you find a listing below $20,665, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $20,665 sits slightly below last year's $22,614.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless you choose a clean, well-maintained truck. If you keep mileage reasonable and service records complete, you can help protect value when it is time to sell. Condition will matter a lot because shoppers in this segment tend to compare trucks closely on history and upkeep.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a full-size truck with strong owner approval and a softer used-car price than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out as the better pick when you want a balance of value, inventory, and buyer confidence.
