Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 8/10 from our experts. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the LaCrosse for its spaciousness, classy design, smooth ride, comfort, and advanced features. The overview also frames it as a redesigned full-size sedan that aims to feel more premium and more broadly appealing than Buick’s older image, which helps explain why it stands out in the lineup.

Is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find comfortable and dependable over time, with praise centered on its smooth ride, spacious cabin, and overall value as a luxury car. That said, some owners mention electronic-system concerns, including the temperature gauge and error messages, along with a few paint-quality complaints.

The expert evaluation also describes the LaCrosse as structurally rock solid, with a more robust architecture than the previous model. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the electronic complaints and other age-related issues may show up more often on higher-mileage examples, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Buick LaCrosse?

At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork, electronic warnings, or signs of uneven wear. Focus on how the cabin electronics, warning messages, paint, and overall maintenance history look in person, since those are the kinds of issues owners have flagged.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Buick offers the LaCrosse in Base, Preferred, Essence, and Premium trims, and the base setup leaves out some desirable equipment. The content also notes that giving up certain options means losing automatic emergency braking capability, so you should pay close attention to which safety and convenience features are actually fitted.
• Powertrain: The LaCrosse uses a 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive available. The engine is described as refined and strong, and the car’s structure is praised as rock solid.
• Safety package: The car can be fitted with full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure prevention, blind-spot information warning, a safety-alert seat, a rear-seat reminder, Teen Driver technology, and OnStar services. Some of these features are not standard on every trim, so verify the exact equipment on the car you’re considering.
• Infotainment: Buick’s IntelliLink system includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a responsive touchscreen, logical menus, and separate climate controls. The system is praised for being easy to use, and available extras include a Bose audio system, head-up display, wireless charging, and automatic parking assist.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive test car was rated at 25 mpg in combined driving, though it averaged 23.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2017 Buick LaCrosse trim should I buy?

The 2017 Buick LaCrosse is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Preferred, Essence, and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, but you should only choose it if price matters most and you’re comfortable giving up some of the richer equipment and safety content that make the LaCrosse feel upscale.
• Preferred: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of value and equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It should be the first stop for most used shoppers.
• Essence: This is the best-value trim if you want a more premium feel and a stronger feature mix without paying for every available luxury item.
• Premium: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete version of the LaCrosse, including the richest comfort and technology content. It’s the right pick if you want the car to feel fully loaded.

The safety content also notes that the LaCrosse can be fitted with a long list of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, so make sure the trim you choose has the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Buick LaCrosse?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 308 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,197, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse's resale value?

The current average of $15,278 sits slightly below last year's $16,090.

That decline suggests the LaCrosse has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current average price can also mean future resale gains may be more limited unless the car is especially clean, well-equipped, and well maintained.

The model’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who want a roomy, upscale sedan with a smooth ride. Well-kept examples should hold their appeal better than neglected ones, particularly if they have desirable features and a clean history.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Buick LaCrosse safe?

The 2017 Buick LaCrosse earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and driver protection in a side-impact collision, and five-star ratings in the other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it top ratings in the moderate overlap frontal impact test and the side impact test, along with a Basic rating for crash avoidance and mitigation.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The LaCrosse can be equipped with full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure prevention, blind-spot information warning, a safety-alert seat, a rear-seat reminder, Teen Driver technology, and OnStar services. One caveat is that the safety package is not identical across all trims, so you should confirm which driver-assistance features are actually installed on the car you’re shopping.

Should I buy a 2017 Buick LaCrosse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 redesign is presented as a clear step toward a more premium, modern Buick, with a spacious cabin, classy design, smooth ride, and advanced features.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern-feeling version of this generation’s LaCrosse, the 2017 is the one to focus on. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may find better value in a nearby year with similar comfort and equipment, but the 2017’s redesign, strong owner satisfaction, and softened pricing make it a compelling used buy when you find a clean example.
