Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura TLX stands out as a premium sport sedan that tries to balance comfort, performance, and value in one package. For this model year, it was available with either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter V6, and the V6 could be paired with SH-AWD. The base car also brought an innovative four-wheel steering system, LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats with power adjustability, and a seven-speaker audio system. Its cabin tech was split across two displays, including an eight-inch screen and a seven-inch center display, which helped give the TLX a more upscale feel than many mainstream sedans.
What makes the 2017 TLX especially appealing is that it combines that equipment with a driving character owners often praise for its smooth ride, responsive handling in sport mode, and ability to absorb rough pavement. The available Technology Package added real leather seating surfaces, voice commands, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system, while the Advance Package for V6 models added features such as parking sensors, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation. At the same time, the 2017 TLX is not without drawbacks: the nine-speed automatic tied to the V6 has a poor reputation, and some drivers have also noted transmission behavior they did not like in everyday driving.

Very responsive especially in sport+mode and shift manually. All wheel drive sticks to the road. Abosb bumpy roads like a champ. The brakes can use some improvement though. The transmission will hesitate in eco and normal mode. Just use sport and sport+ and itll take care of it. Although you can totally tell the difference in ride quality in each mode. 25 mpg all around for a V6 is not too bad. Very quiet interior. The upgraded sound system sounds better with Spotify than FM (with subscription gives you higher quality streaming). Would love to have Android Auto for Google Maps, but not offer till 2018. Wish we can retrofit the software. But overall, very happy with its value, performance and comfort.

There are 519 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, fast performance, and beautiful interior, and they also like the responsive handling in sport mode and its ability to absorb bumpy roads. For you, that means this model year fits well if you want a premium sport sedan that blends comfort and driving enjoyment. With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful shopping opportunity if you compare carefully.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride and trouble-free comfort-focused character. That said, some drivers mention transmission behavior they did not like, so used buyers should pay close attention to how the car drives in normal conditions. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is choosing a poorly maintained example rather than the model itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura TLX?
At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, transmission behavior, and signs of uneven wear so you can avoid a car that looks good on paper but needs immediate work.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 519 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,330, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $15,744 sits slightly below last year's $16,080.
That softer pricing suggests the TLX is still competitive on the used market, but it may not command a premium unless the example is especially well kept. If you buy carefully and maintain the car well, you can help protect your future resale position. Clean history, strong condition, and desirable equipment will matter more than simply owning the badge.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,654, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,744 average.
- It emphasizes Acura’s renewed performance-luxury identity.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $18,087, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,744 average.
- It adds a sportier A-Spec trim and updated tech.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and market availability, the 2017 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the better value play; if you want newer features and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the upgrade path.
