CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura MDX

Summary
With 82 currently listed for sale near Sacramento, CA and an average price of $18,217.00, 24.4% of 2017 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura MDX 4.74 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends family usefulness with a more polished, upscale feel than many rivals. It was part of the third generation, which brought a new dual-screen infotainment setup, a re-engineered 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, and a stronger emphasis on fuel economy. Acura also made front-wheel drive available for the first time, and the MDX could be equipped with packages rather than traditional trims, giving buyers a way to tailor the vehicle’s features and equipment.
What makes the 2017 model especially notable is the refresh that arrived that year. Acura binned the controversial grille, made all of the MDX’s formerly optional safety systems standard, and introduced the MDX Sport Hybrid with a 3.0-liter V6 and a trio of electric motors. That hybrid was rated at 321 system horsepower and could return up to 27 mpg combined and 26 mpg in city driving, making it both quicker and more efficient than the standard model. The MDX also remained comfortable and well equipped, with features such as ventilated seats becoming more common during this generation.
There are tradeoffs, though. The infotainment system was not especially easy to use, and the third-generation MDX lost some interior room compared with the previous version, including a smaller second row and less cargo space overall. Even so, the 2017 Acura MDX remains appealing for buyers who want a practical luxury SUV with a strong feature set, solid efficiency, and the added rarity of a hybrid option.

This car, the Acura MDX is a total surprise to me. The features are sophisticated and just the right amount of technology and swag that makes it an eye catching bang for my bucks. I came out of a Tahoe with great features and good looks that turned heads and attracted inquiries. My MDX is getting so many compliments and attention from my friends, family, and group members because the maintenance record was impressive and it has the look of luxury; it's a stylish vehicle, that boasts reliability second only to Toyota Lexus. I enjoy driving the MDX and the only thing missing is free oil changes.

How much does the 2017 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,638 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,347.87 |
| Year-Round High | $18,928.36 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,915 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.75% |
Prices have softened 6.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 1,123 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $17,347.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura MDX earns a 4.74/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the luxury feel, spacious interior, and safety features, and many also like the smooth ride and available third row. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a three-row luxury SUV that balances family usefulness with upscale comfort. With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise for the smooth ride, spacious cabin, and overall comfort that many drivers can count on over time. That said, some owners mention frustrations with the infotainment system and interior finishes, so you should expect the best long-term experience from a well-kept example with clean maintenance records. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is buying a neglected vehicle whose condition hides avoidable wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura MDX?
At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the condition matches the listing. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and any evidence that the vehicle’s electronics or interior have been neglected. Because this model is often bought for family use, a careful check of overall condition matters as much as mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,123 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,347.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $17,638 sits slightly below last year's $18,915.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy a clean, well-maintained example so you preserve as much value as possible. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,625, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $17,638 average.
- It emphasizes safety, athleticism, and refinement.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall shopping case, the 2017 is the better primary path because it combines solid owner satisfaction, softer pricing, and a healthy amount of inventory. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition and can live with its older setup.
