Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners most often praise its driving experience, interior quality, and value for the price, and many also call out its smooth ride and good fuel economy. Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling driving experience and generally positive day-to-day ownership, with many buyers describing the Tiguan as a vehicle they can count on for comfort and value. At the same time, some reviews mention concerns around the panoramic sunroof and Volkswagen’s response to related issues, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is manageable if you verify the vehicle carefully, but it is not the kind of model you should buy without a thorough inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was minor, repaired properly, and documented. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of water intrusion, and the operation of major comfort and convenience features. Because this model has a mixed reputation in some ownership circles, you should put condition and maintenance records ahead of cosmetic appeal.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 870 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,083, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $9,083 sits slightly below last year's $9,502.

That softer pricing suggests the model has been under some downward pressure, which can limit upside if you plan to sell in the near term. On the other hand, a lower entry price can help you buy in at a more favorable point, especially if you choose a clean, well-maintained example. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you give yourself a better chance of preserving value when it is time to move on.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a Tiguan with a lower average price and strong owner approval, especially if you can verify a clean history and solid maintenance. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a slightly newer or older example offers a better mix of condition, mileage, and asking price.
