How much does the 2016 Toyota Tundra cost?

Prices have softened 2.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,278 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Toyota Tundra earns 4.29/5 from owners and 6.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

Owners most often praise its power, reliability, smooth ride, interior comfort, and resale value. That lines up with the truck’s straightforward, work-ready character and its appeal for shoppers who want a traditional full-size pickup rather than the newest powertrain or chassis tech.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability and a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they can count on the truck’s power and durability. The expert notes also describe it as capable and stout, which reinforces the sense that it’s built for long-term use.

Toyota’s upgraded Entune system and practical truck hardware add to the sense of everyday dependability, and the available maintenance-friendly ownership experience helps the truck feel easier to live with over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that repair costs and fuel use can be harder to ignore if the truck has been worked hard or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Tundra?

At 55.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus on inspection quality, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of repair, and whether the truck’s mechanical wear matches its mileage and use pattern.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Platinum trim shown in the expert review adds a spacious CrewMax cabin, a 5.5-foot bed, and a more upscale feel, while the SR5 and Limited trims add useful convenience and comfort features such as fog lights, HD and satellite radio, automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, a power-sliding rear window, and navigation.
• Powertrain: The truck uses a 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 with 401 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic and available 4WD through an electronic transfer case. It’s strong for towing and hauling, but fuel economy is a weak point.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes traction and stability control, trailer brake and sway control, eight airbags, and full-length side airbags. A rear camera, front and rear parking sonar, and blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert are available.
• Infotainment: The upgraded Entune system uses a 7-inch screen and adds real-time traffic and weather. Standard equipment includes USB ports and an auxiliary jack, while SR5 and Limited trims add more convenience and connectivity features.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 returns 13 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Tundra is offered in 3 trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the core Tundra experience with useful extras like fog lights, HD and satellite radio, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, a power-sliding rear window, and navigation without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale version, and it’s the one highlighted in the expert review with the roomy CrewMax cabin, 5.5-foot bed, and more premium overall presentation.

The safety content notes that some features, including the rear camera, parking sonar, and blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert, are available rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,278 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,737, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $25,401 sits slightly below last year's $26,178.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to keep the truck for several years. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may not see the same near-term appreciation that stronger-trending vehicles can deliver.

Even so, the Tundra’s reputation for owner satisfaction and its truck-focused appeal should help it remain desirable to used buyers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2016 Toyota Tundra earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the CrewMax specifically rated only three-star in frontal impacts and rollovers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded its highest rating of Good in all tested segments.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes traction and stability control, trailer brake and sway control, and eight airbags with full-length side airbags. Available features include a rear camera, front and rear parking sonar, and a blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is that the CrewMax’s lower frontal-impact and rollover results are worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings an upgraded Entune system, a larger gas tank, and an integrated brake controller on upper trims.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,742, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $25,401 average.
• It stands out most in TRD Pro trim, where special suspension upgrades and distinctive detailing give it extra personality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded shopping target, the 2016 is the stronger pick because it adds useful updates and still offers solid owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 can make sense, especially if you find a well-kept example with the TRD Pro appeal that the earlier model year is known for.
