Has all the bells and whistles important to a grandmother hauling grandkids to ballgames and everything in between. Smooth as a cadillac ride, great power, and I love the auto liftgate and back up camera. Third row seats are handy to have and fold down flat. Toyota has a great reputation for lasting a long time, and I like to keep my cars many years. Drove a GMC Acadia prior to this car, and I prefer the Toyota.

Coming from a 13 Tucson that blew up on us without warning, this 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited is absolutely stunning. We are very pleased with the fit and finish on the Limited trim, the features are amazing, every single option. It rides so smooth and so quiet, has great power, great fuel economy. It has sharp lines outside, looks great inside, Toyota really did a great job with this vehicle. We are proud to be new members of the Toyota family. We hope for decades of good ownership within Toyota.

If you find a listing below $17,937.64, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Toyota Highlander a good car?
Yes — the 4.93/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise the Highlander's comfort, reliability, and abundance of features. The smooth ride and powerful V6 also come up often, which fits a family-focused SUV that prioritizes everyday ease over sporty driving.
If you want a spacious, practical used SUV for family duty, this model year lines up well with that use case. 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you can still find attractive options if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Toyota Highlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and it also describes the Highlander as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. That kind of long-term confidence matters when you're shopping used, because it suggests the vehicle has earned trust over time rather than just a short-term appeal.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model's reputation and more about the condition of the specific example you choose.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?
At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with past damage or other red flags. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, tires, and interior wear so you can judge whether the vehicle's condition matches its asking price.
Because this model is often bought for family use, focus on signs of heavy daily wear and make sure the features you care about are working properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,800 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,937.64, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Toyota Highlander's resale value?
The current average of $18,505 sits slightly below last year's $19,221.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can make resale timing more important if you're planning to sell later. If values continue to soften, a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out.
At the same time, the Highlander's strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers looking for a dependable family SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $20,484, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,505 average.
- It adds standard Toyota Safety Sense and an updated V6.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the better value and are willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you can stretch for the 2017, the added safety tech and updated powertrain make it the better pick for buyers who want newer features and are less price-sensitive.
