How much does the 2016 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices are up 2.38% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 1,988 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Corollas to compare.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.7/5 user-rated car with an expert score of 7.5/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, smooth ride, and value for money. The Corolla is also described as comfortable and even luxurious-feeling for the price, which fits its role as a practical daily driver with a polished look. In use-case terms, it makes the most sense if you want a sensible economy car that still feels well put together.

Only 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may take some shopping.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly describes the Corolla as reliable and dependable, with owners also pointing to trouble-free ownership and a car you can count on for everyday use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes reliable daily driving for years, if not decades to come, which reinforces its long-term ownership appeal. The main used-buyer risk is that some cars may have been driven hard or maintained inconsistently, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

At 44.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the Corolla’s appeal is tied to value and low running costs, you’ll want to focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car still feels tight and well cared for on the road.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the most basic version, while the LE adds a 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats. The S adds a sportier look with a unique grille, integrated fog lights, available 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler.
• Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder. Most versions make 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while the LE Eco uses Valvematic technology and other tweaks to reach 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. Most trims use a CVT, while the L can also be had with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models with the touchscreen also get an integrated backup camera, but the Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The base car uses a conventional touchscreen and controls layout, while the LE adds a 6.1-inch touchscreen with easy-to-use functionality, Entune apps, comprehensive voice control, and Siri Eyes Free when paired with a Bluetooth-connected iPhone. Toyota does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The most common CVT and FWD setup earns 29 mpg city/38 highway/32 combined. The base L with the 4-speed automatic earns 27/36/31, the 6-speed versions return 28/37/31, and the LE Eco gets 30 mpg city/42 highway/36 combined.

Which 2016 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, S.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Corolla’s core value proposition at the lowest starting price. It’s the trim to choose if you want the most affordable path into the model and can live without the touchscreen and comfort upgrades.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats without moving too far up the price ladder. It’s the trim that most clearly balances everyday comfort and value.
• LE Eco: Choose this if fuel economy is your top priority. It uses the same basic engine family but adds efficiency-focused hardware and delivers the best mpg figures in the lineup.
• S: Pick this if you want the sportier appearance package and the extra visual flair from the unique grille, fog lights, alloy wheels, chrome-tipped exhaust, and rear spoiler.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the touchscreen-equipped models add the backup camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,988 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.38% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 44.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,970, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $12,778 sits slightly above last year's $12,481.

That upward move suggests the Corolla has held buyer interest well enough to support pricing. For a future seller, that’s a useful sign because steady demand can help protect value, especially for a car known for efficiency and low ownership costs. If your Corolla is clean, well maintained, and accident-free, it should be easier to position competitively when you sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, and more. Models equipped with the touchscreen also have an integrated backup camera. The main caveat is that the Corolla lacks several advanced driver-assistance features that are available on multiple rivals, including forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 44.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.38% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes value, fuel economy, and a straightforward feature set.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,845, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,778 average.
• It’s a dependable, sensible compact car with a touch of style.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $13,887, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,778 average.
• It adds standard Safety Sense P and a reversing camera.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the right pick if you want a value-focused Corolla with strong efficiency and broad appeal. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2015 is the cheaper route; if you want more safety content, the 2017 is the better upgrade path.

How does the 2016 Toyota Corolla compare to the 2016 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2016 Toyota Corolla 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Civic 8/10.

The Corolla is the value play: it costs less on average, has a higher good-and-great deal share, and delivers strong fuel economy and straightforward practicality. The Civic asks for more money, but it brings more power, better mpg, and a larger pool of listings, which helps explain its higher expert score.
