At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated ownership issues. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, panel fit, interior wear, and any signs that the car has been repaired after an incident. Because this model year can vary a lot from listing to listing, the condition of the specific car matters more than the badge alone.

The current average of $19,076 sits slightly above last year's $19,058.

That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a reasonable shot at preserving value better than you would in a more volatile segment. The steady pricing also helps future sellers because it signals consistent buyer interest rather than fading demand.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want a used Model S with stable pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and a broad mix of listings to compare, the 2016 is a sensible primary choice.
