Why it stands out
The 2016 Subaru Impreza stands out as a practical all-weather compact with standard all-wheel drive, which gives it an immediate advantage for buyers who want extra confidence in poor conditions. It is also appealing because it blends everyday usefulness with a reputation for being affordable and practical fun, rather than trying to be a purely sporty or luxury-focused car.
Its strengths are balanced by some familiar compromises. The ride is described as rough in daily driving, and the interior materials are cheap. Even so, the Impreza’s formula is straightforward and appealing: it offers the security of all-wheel drive, a usable cabin, and the kind of no-nonsense character that makes it easy to live with.

Reviewed a 2016 Subaru Impreza on Feb 16, 2024
Drives great. Lots of space. l needed an all-wheel drive for where I live. Good price because it had a rear-end collision which the dealer was upfront with. I also had a photo of the damage. It was fixed beautifully. One thing, the rear camera doesnt work and also the rear defrost. Need to get that fixed. Very low mileage, 28000 km. All in all, it is a great car for a great price.

How much does the 2016 Subaru Impreza cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,515 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,329 |
| Year-Round High | $11,132 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,937 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.86% |
Prices have softened 3.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 783 listings available, which suggests a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2016 Subaru Impreza a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Subaru Impreza earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out as a practical all-weather compact with standard all-wheel drive, and it blends everyday usefulness with affordable, no-nonsense character. That makes it especially appealing if you want extra confidence in poor conditions without moving into a crossover. The market also shows 29.5% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Subaru Impreza reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Impreza’s straightforward formula and practical design support confidence for used buyers, especially if you value a car that is easy to live with. Its rough ride and cheap interior materials are worth keeping in mind, but they do not change the fact that this model is built around simple, everyday usability. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying one with hidden wear or neglected maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Impreza?
At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past incidents or poor repairs. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate clean, well-kept examples from cars that may need extra work.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Impreza?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 783 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.86% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,329, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Subaru Impreza's resale value?
The current average of $10,515 sits slightly below last year's $10,937.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the market tightens. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers will compare your car against a fairly broad pool of similar listings. A clean history and strong maintenance record should help your car stand out when it is time to move on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.86% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $10,049, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $10,515 average.
- It adds better interior amenities and a quieter cabin.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,697, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $10,515 average.
- It brings an all-new design with affordable tech and broader appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and everyday usefulness, the 2016 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value play, while the 2017 makes sense if you want to spend more for the newer package.
