What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lexus RX?

At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, since accident history can affect both long-term value and peace of mind. It also makes sense to verify that the cabin electronics, driver-assist features, and drivetrain all operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX 350 AWD test vehicle is described as moderately optioned, with rich materials, a dramatic interior, and a design that may be polarizing. The base setup already includes LED headlights for both low and high beams, while some convenience items such as the touch-free power liftgate and heated steering wheel were optional extras.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque comes standard with an 8-speed automatic in front-wheel drive form, while all-wheel drive is optional. The hybrid RX 450h uses an Atkinson-cycle version of the same V6, two electric motors, and a CVT for 308 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System + includes adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert was also available, and rear-side airbags are standard.
• Infotainment: The RX uses a navigation system with voice input, live traffic and weather, Bluetooth streaming, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The tech setup also includes telematics with stolen-vehicle alerts, remote unlocking, and vehicle health reports.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 AWD is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, and it takes regular 87-octane gasoline.

Which 2016 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350 AWD, RX 450h F-Sport AWD.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350 AWD: This is the core RX experience if you want the smooth ride, strong comfort focus, and broad everyday appeal that define the model. It delivers the standard V6 powertrain, the upscale cabin, and the quiet, relaxed driving character that make the RX easy to live with.
• RX 450h F-Sport AWD: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain and the more performance-oriented F-Sport treatment, including the firmer adaptive suspension and larger 20-inch wheels. It suits you best if you want the most equipment and the most distinctive version of the lineup.

Lexus Safety System + is the key safety package to look for, since it adds adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning.

What is the 2016 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $22,007 sits slightly below last year's $22,224.

That small decline suggests the RX has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to predictable pricing and less risk of a sudden drop. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also supports demand, which can help keep resale values healthier over time.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 RX adds a redesigned, comfort-first luxury crossover with strong safety and value.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,233, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $22,007 average.
• It remains quiet, comfortable, practical, and dependable.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $23,711, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $22,007 average.
• It adds broader F Sport availability and standard Safety System + Package inclusion.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of modern design, comfort, and value, the 2016 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can still make sense for its lower price, while the 2017 is worth considering if you want the added equipment and are willing to pay more.
