Is the 2016 Kia Soul a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the Soul’s spacious interior, great gas mileage, and solid performance, while also calling out its comfort, handling, and affordability. For you, that makes it a smart fit if you want a small hatchback with personality, everyday usefulness, and value-minded appeal. With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Kia Soul reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights the Soul as dependable in the ways that matter most to used-car shoppers: it is praised for being comfortable, economical to run, and easy to live with over time. The recurring themes of solid performance and trouble-free everyday use suggest you can count on it as a practical long-term choice.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s basic appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Soul?

At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, and interior wear, since condition can vary widely across used listings. Focus on the specific car in front of you rather than assuming every Soul will deliver the same value.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Soul?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,125 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,252, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $8,256 sits slightly below last year's $8,971.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays similar. The current trend suggests the Soul is holding value reasonably well for a used small hatchback, but not aggressively appreciating. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you improve your odds of getting a better return later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,790, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,256 average.
• It delivers strong value with a personality-first, practical feel.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $8,842, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,256 average.
• It adds updated looks and an optional turbocharged engine.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the best all-around pick if you want a balanced mix of price, owner satisfaction, and available inventory. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want newer styling and extra tech, the 2017 is worth a look.
