Is the 2016 Kia Soul a good car?

Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, great gas mileage, solid performance, comfort, handling, and affordability. That lines up well with the Soul’s use case as a practical, value-conscious small hatchback with a lot of room inside for everyday driving. With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Kia Soul reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also emphasizes dependable everyday traits like comfort, good gas mileage, and solid performance, which are the kinds of qualities used buyers tend to count on over time. For a used purchase, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the model’s basic appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by age or heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Soul?

At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden body, suspension, or repair issues. Focus closely on overall condition, since accident history and wear can matter more than mileage alone on a used small car. It also helps to compare multiple listings so you can separate clean examples from cars that are priced low for a reason.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Soul?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find value.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,176 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,272, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $8,274 sits slightly below last year's $8,967.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the broader market is already pricing the model lower than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,878, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,274 average.
• It emphasizes value and personality with broad everyday usefulness.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $8,849, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,274 average.
• It adds updated looks and new technology.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the best all-around pick if you want a strong mix of owner satisfaction, current market value, and decent deal availability. If your priority is spending less, the 2015 is the better budget path; if you want a newer-feeling setup and can pay more, the 2017 is the alternative to compare.
