CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Taurus

Summary
With 500 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,583.00, 27.2% of 2016 Ford Tauruses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Taurus 4.67 / 5 stars.
61.8% of 2016 Taurus models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Taurus stands out as a spacious, full-size sedan that was part of the model’s sixth and final generation. By this point, the Taurus had settled into a straightforward role as a large family car, and the buying guide notes that late-model examples can be a good deal for shoppers who want as little as possible to spend on a roomy, reliable car. It also points out that the Taurus was outclassed by full-size sedan competitors by the time it left the American market in 2019, which helps explain its appeal as a practical rather than especially cutting-edge choice.
For 2016, the Taurus benefited from the sixth-generation updates that had already been introduced earlier in the run. The standard 3.5-liter V6 was rated at 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined for the 2013 model year, while the available 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder offered the best fuel economy of any Taurus at the time, with EPA ratings of 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The Taurus also offered a well-equipped cabin in higher trims, with available features such as blind-spot warning with cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support. The tradeoff was that the model’s non-SHO versions were described as having pedestrian performance, and the buying guide also calls out outdated technology as a drawback.

With all the bigger cars going to a 4 cylinder engine this car is is more quiet and smoother. Drove one with 100k still tight and no rattles. Just felt solid well made. All bigger cars should have v8s but this will do just fine! Also super comfortable and good fuel mileage and reliable. Closest to a good old crown vic you can get but modernized

It seems like a really nice car. Is obviously has plenty of power. I guess it is a little bit of a let down inside, finding it a little on the small side for a large sedan.

How much does the 2016 Ford Taurus cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,545 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,943.27 |
| Year-Round High | $10,958.15 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,844 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.76% |
Prices have softened 2.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 502 listings available, you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare across price and condition.
If you find a listing below $9,943.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Ford Taurus a good car?
Yes — the 4.67/5 user rating suggests you’re looking at a model year that satisfies many shoppers.
The 2016 Taurus stands out as a spacious, full-size sedan that settled into a straightforward role as a large family car. The overview also frames late-model examples as a good deal for shoppers who want to spend as little as possible on a roomy, reliable car, while noting that it’s more of a practical choice than a cutting-edge one.
That makes it a sensible fit if you want space and value over flash, especially if you’re shopping for a large sedan with a simple mission. 21.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Ford Taurus reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview describes the 2016 Taurus as a roomy, reliable car for shoppers who want to keep costs down, which points to a straightforward ownership experience rather than a complicated one. It also suggests the model’s appeal comes from practicality and value, not from chasing the latest tech or performance trends.
For used buyers, that usually means your biggest long-term risk is less about the concept of the car and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by age or mileage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Taurus?
At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, paint consistency, interior wear, and any signs that the car has been repaired after an accident.
Because this model is valued for practicality and space, condition matters more than chasing a bargain on paper. A cleaner, better-kept Taurus is usually the smarter buy than a cheaper one with questionable history.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Taurus?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,943.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Taurus's resale value?
The current average of $10,545 sits slightly below last year's $10,844.
That kind of price movement suggests the model has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that a Taurus bought at the right price today should be easier to move later if it stays clean and well maintained.
Because this is a practical, value-oriented sedan, resale tends to depend heavily on condition and pricing discipline. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Taurus or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 21.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a roomy, practical full-size sedan and you’re focused on value, the 2016 is the primary year to target because it combines a lower average price with decent deal availability. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can widen your search to nearby years, but the 2016 remains the cleaner starting point for balancing cost, inventory, and buyer satisfaction.
