That kind of feedback usually lines up with a model that owners feel good about keeping. The expert review also describes the Mustang as a capable, confidence-inspiring car that handles its weight with poise and delivers strong performance across the lineup. It also notes that the Mustang remains one of the better deals in its class, which supports the case for dependable ownership value. Q: What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and trim match the listing. Key things to evaluate: Trim level: The base car comes with 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and MyKey. Higher trims add features like power front seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and Sync 3.; Powertrain: The lineup includes a V6, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, and a V8. The V6 is rated at 300 hp and 280 lb-ft, the EcoBoost at 310 hp and 320 lb-ft, and the V8 at 435 hp and 400 lb-ft.; Safety package: The Mustang includes standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.; Infotainment: Sync 3 is available with an 8-inch touchscreen, and the upgraded system is described as quicker and more capable than the previous setup.; Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the manual and 22 combined with the automatic. The EcoBoost is rated at 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic. The V8 is rated at 15/25/19.

Q: What is the 2016 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $19,063 sits slightly below last year's $19,954. That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work against you if you buy at the wrong price. If you plan to sell later, you’ll want to focus on condition, mileage, and originality because those factors matter more when a model is already trending downward. The good news is that the Mustang still has strong enthusiast appeal, and that helps support demand. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than modified or rough-condition cars. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Q: Is the 2016 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2016 Ford Mustang earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts. Standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags are part of the safety story here. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors.
