How much does the 2016 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 4.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,794 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Mustang earns a 4.85/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fun and smooth ride, performance, handling, and stylish design. The overview also points to a classic-looking performance car with updated tech and a broader mix of appearance and performance packages, which helps if you want something that feels special without giving up everyday usability.

With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively and still find strong value.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels fun, smooth, and satisfying to live with, and it also highlights value compared with similar cars. The expert review reinforces that this Mustang keeps its composure with confidence-inspiring handling and a more modern chassis setup, which supports the sense that it’s built to be enjoyed over time.

The cost-effectiveness notes also suggest the Mustang remains a strong deal in its class, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how the car was driven, since sports cars can vary a lot from one example to the next.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this is a performance car, condition matters as much as mileage, so focus on how the car was maintained, whether it was modified, and whether wear matches the seller’s story.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and MyKey, while higher trims add features like power front seats, unique wheels, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated seats, and upgraded audio.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a V6, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, or a V8, with the V8 delivering the strongest performance and the turbo four offering the best balance of power and efficiency.
• Safety package: The standard safety suite includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags; Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the key tech upgrade, and higher trims bring an 8-inch touchscreen, a 9-speaker setup, and a larger screen; the system is quicker than the old setup, but some owners still wanted Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the manual and 22 combined with the automatic, while the turbo four is rated at 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic.

Which 2016 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• V6: This is the value-oriented entry point, and it still comes well equipped with 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, and MyKey. It suits you if you want the Mustang look and feel without chasing the pricier performance and luxury extras.
• EcoBoost: This trim adds the turbocharged 2.3-liter engine, power front seats, unique 18-inch alloys, a rear spoiler, and LED fog lights. It’s the best-value pick if you want stronger efficiency and a more modern powertrain without moving too far up the price ladder.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the sweet spot if you want the most complete mix of tech and comfort, with Sync 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, heated mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and more.
• GT: Choose this if V8 power is your priority. It adds the Coyote V8, bigger brakes, and available performance hardware, making it the right fit if you care most about straight-line speed and classic Mustang character.
• GT Premium: This is the most complete V8 choice, restoring the premium comfort and tech features while keeping the V8 performance. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest all-around Mustang experience.

Safety content also notes that Premium Mustangs can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,794 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,381, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $18,850 sits slightly below last year's $19,769.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good for you as a buyer but less favorable if you’re thinking about future trade-in value. If you plan to sell later, the biggest factor will be how well the car is kept and whether it stays close to stock condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2016 Ford Mustang earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add front and rear parking sensors.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Sync 3, new appearance packages, and the GT Performance package for the convertible.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $19,625, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $18,850 average.
• It’s a redesigned anniversary-year Mustang with broad appeal from its major dynamic and tech improvements.

The 2016 is the better primary target if you want the newer feature mix and softer pricing. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2015 can still make sense, but you should expect to pay more for its anniversary-year positioning.
