Used 2016 Chevrolet Volt for Sale nearPhiladelphia, PA

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Volt a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating point to a car that delivers exactly what it promises: electric driving for most daily use, plus gasoline backup when you need it. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Technology.

The 2016 Volt’s appeal is its practical middle ground. The overview and test-drive summary both emphasize that it gives you electric mobility most of the time while eliminating range anxiety, which makes it especially appealing if you want EV-like driving without the worry of being stranded by a depleted battery. It also earns a strong market signal, with 33.3% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Volt reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview and expert test-drive summary both frame the 2016 Volt as a thoughtfully engineered car whose special powertrain is the key to its value, and the cost-effectiveness commentary says it is expected to prove reliable over time. The performance write-up also supports that view by describing a powertrain that works in a straightforward, repeatable way: electric drive for most use, with the gasoline engine acting as a generator when needed. If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the concept and more about how well the battery, charging hardware, and hybrid system have been maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Volt?

At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body repairs, charging behavior, and the health of the hybrid system. Because this model’s value depends so heavily on its electric-and-gasoline integration, condition matters more than mileage alone. Pay close attention to how the car charges, how smoothly it transitions between power sources, and whether any warning lights or unusual noises appear during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premier trim adds leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, heated side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, a Bose premium sound system, wireless device charging, automatic parking assist for parallel and perpendicular spaces, and machined-finish aluminum wheels. The base LT is the better value if you want the Volt’s core powertrain and technology without paying extra for comfort and convenience upgrades.
• Powertrain: The Volt uses a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a two-motor electric drive unit and an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery. It makes 149 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque, can travel up to a claimed 53 miles on a charge, and is designed to run on electricity most of the time before the gasoline engine takes over as a generator.
• Safety package: The Driver Confidence packages add blind-spot warning with lane-change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning with low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. The base car does not include those features.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Chevrolet’s MyLink system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin also includes displays that track efficiency and power flow, and OnStar services add a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection and safety-related features.
• Fuel efficiency: The Volt averaged 106.4 MPGe in testing, with an EPA estimate of 106 MPGe, and it is expected to return 42 mpg when using the gasoline generator.

Which 2016 Chevrolet Volt trim should I buy?

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the trim to target if you want the Volt’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get the special powertrain, MyLink with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the car’s efficiency-focused displays, so it covers the essentials without pushing the budget.
• Premier: This is the better choice if you want the most comfort and convenience. It adds leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors, Bose audio, wireless charging, automatic parking assist, and machined-finish aluminum wheels. It suits you best if you plan to keep the car longer and want a more upscale daily driver.

The safety packages are optional rather than standard, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, look for a car equipped with the Driver Confidence packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Volt?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find reasonable value.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 156 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Volt safe?

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt has not been subjected to crash testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Volt offers two Driver Confidence packages. One adds blind-spot warning with lane-change alert and rear cross-traffic alert, while the other adds forward-collision warning with low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. The expert review notes that the forward-collision warning system occasionally emitted false warnings, and the lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist could feel artificial enough that they were turned off during testing.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Volt or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says the Volt’s compromise is “brilliant” because its special powertrain lets it run on electric power most of the time while eliminating range anxiety.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of electric driving and everyday usability, the 2016 Volt is the year to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop selectively and look for the cleanest example with the right safety and convenience packages, but the core appeal of this model year is already clear: it gives you EV-like commuting without the usual range worries.
