Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the review summary consistently highlights towing and hauling capability, heavy-duty performance, and overall build quality. Owners also appreciate the available features and the truck’s Duramax engine performance, while noting that the cabin is comfortable and functional for work and daily use. For you, that makes this a strong fit if you want a capable heavy-duty pickup with a mix of strength, comfort, and useful equipment. 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a truck that feels dependable in the ways heavy-duty buyers care about most, especially when it comes to towing, hauling, and overall build quality. It also suggests that many owners count on the Duramax-powered setup and appreciate the truck’s work-ready character over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that wear, cosmetic issues, and prior use can matter more than mileage alone, so condition should guide your decision.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean trucks from those with accident records or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, suspension, and any signs of hard towing or jobsite wear. Because this is a heavy-duty truck, condition matters as much as equipment, so focus on how well the truck has been maintained and whether it shows signs of abuse.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,538 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,521, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $28,697 sits slightly below last year's $29,684.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if prices stay soft. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is buying a truck with strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment. Trucks that present well and show consistent owner satisfaction tend to hold buyer interest better when it is time to trade in or list privately.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,495, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $28,697 average.
• It adds an all-new diesel engine with more power and torque.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a softer market. If you are willing to pay more for the newer-year diesel upgrade and a more work-focused setup, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
