Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary specifically calls out reliability and trouble-free ownership themes, alongside praise for comfort and value. It also suggests many owners feel confident enough in the truck’s long-term usefulness to recommend it to other Chevy fans. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that this generation has known transmission concerns, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any accident damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on transmission behavior, drivability, and signs of uneven wear or repair quality. Pay close attention to how the truck shifts, idles, and handles under load so you can judge overall condition, not just mileage.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $18,172 sits slightly below last year's $20,005.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy at the right number. If you keep the truck in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. The market still rewards well-kept examples, especially when buyers see strong owner satisfaction and a desirable full-size pickup format.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,074, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $18,172 average.
• It leans on a straightforward, traditional truck formula.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the stronger overall value proposition, better market support, and a well-liked ownership experience. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in cleaner condition and with the equipment you want.
