CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 151 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $23,119, 15.2% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
66.2% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out because it is a completely redesigned car that brings updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech. It also rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS, which gives it a new level of refinement. For buyers drawn to the Camaro’s place in American car culture, that combination of fresh design and modernized hardware makes this version feel like a new chapter rather than a simple update.
At the same time, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is not presented as trying to live up to any legacy, which reinforces how distinct this redesign is. The tradeoff is that the car’s usability still matters, and the source notes that the previous model had serious setbacks that hurt daily driving. Owner feedback echoes some of that practicality concern, with praise for the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling, but complaints that visibility can be a significant issue and that the cabin may feel cramped for taller drivers.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Reviewed a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro on Sep 22, 2022
Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from experts point to a car that lands well with shoppers who want style and performance. Owners repeatedly praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities.
That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a completely redesigned Camaro that aims to feel more refined, with updated looks, a better interior, and modern infotainment. For you, that means the appeal is strongest if you want a classic pony-car experience with a more polished daily-driving feel.
The market also shows 28.1% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to you: it’s praised for strong performance, smooth driving, and advanced technology, with no recurring complaint pattern in the summary beyond visibility and cabin space. The expert drive notes also emphasize the Camaro’s refined platform sharing and well-weighted steering, which supports the sense that it’s built to be a composed, confidence-inspiring car over time.
The cost-effectiveness notes also mention that the 2LT V6 setup can be a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality, which can help reduce regret if you want a balanced used purchase. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama here and more about choosing a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows signs of hard use. Focus on condition details that matter in a sporty coupe: visibility-related wear, interior condition, and whether the car’s equipment still works as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2LT adds push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, while the Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Powertrain: You can shop a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, or the SS’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque; the turbo four with the 8-speed automatic is the best fuel-economy performer.
- Safety package: The Camaro includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera; rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of the Convenience and Lighting package on the test car.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, supports CarPlay, and includes a head-up display; the system is presented as easy to use, though no navigation system was installed on the test vehicle.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined; the V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined; the V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 2LT, SS, and 2LT.
Here's the short version:
- 2LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Camaro’s modern cabin and daily comfort features without jumping to V8 pricing. It brings the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and push-button start, and it’s the trim that best matches the car’s refined, tech-forward personality.
- SS: Choose this if you want the full muscle-car experience and the strongest straight-line performance. It adds the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, plus Track mode, so it’s the right pick if performance matters more than efficiency.
The safety content also notes that rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of the Convenience and Lighting package, so that package is worth seeking out if you want extra confidence in daily driving.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?

- Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,276 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.77% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.8% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,054 sits slightly below last year's $23,469.
That kind of softening suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move a car quickly. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to protect value later. The Camaro’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, which can cushion resale performance over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. As part of the Convenience and Lighting package, rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were also featured on the test car.
The main caveat is visibility: the expert safety commentary says the Camaro’s styling creates some of the poorest sight lines you can get in a modern car. That means you should pay close attention to parking, lane changes, and rearward visibility during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It’s a fully redesigned Camaro with a more refined feel, updated looks, and the latest infotainment tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,523, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,054 average.
- It feels more intense and dramatic, with a tighter, more focused cabin and a stronger emphasis on thrill over practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and a more approachable used price, the 2016 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer-year feel and a more intense personality, the 2017 is the better alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2016 remains the more compelling path.
