CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Cadillac Escalade

Summary
With 810 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,447.00, 35.6% of 2016 Cadillac Escalades for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Cadillac Escalade 4.11 / 5 stars.
56.9% of 2016 Escalade models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Cadillac Escalade stands out as a full-size luxury SUV that leans hard into comfort, technology, and presence. For this generation, Cadillac gave the Escalade a blockier, more aggressive exterior and a refined interior packed with tech, while keeping it body-on-frame after plans to switch to unibody construction were scrapped. It also offered rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, plus standard and ESV versions, giving buyers the kind of size and configuration flexibility that suits a large luxury SUV.
What makes the 2016 model especially distinctive is how much equipment it brought to the table. Standard features included active-aero shutters, 20-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, remote start, tri-zone climate control, and an 8,300-pound towing capacity. It also had a power-operated third row that folded flat into the floor, along with a surround-view camera, the CUE infotainment system, 4G LTE connectivity, and a new Cadillac Crest logo. For 2016 specifically, driver assistance features including automatic high-beam control and lane-keep assist were added, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a fully loaded Platinum trim.
Under the hood, the 2016 Cadillac Escalade used a 420hp, 6.2-liter V8, and the original six-speed automatic had already changed to an eight-speed automatic partway through the first year of production. That combination helps explain why the Escalade appeals to buyers who want strong performance in a luxury package. At the same time, it is not the most efficient or most supple-riding choice, and its large size can make garage fit a concern. Still, for shoppers who value a plush cabin, strong capability, and a commanding road feel, the 2016 Escalade has a lot of appeal.

Great car, however the visability when making left or right turns are very scary and cumbersome when trying to see pedestrians. GM should have redesigned the side mirrors before putting these out to market. My 2005 Escalade has a much better design.

How much does the 2016 Cadillac Escalade cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,505 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,186.27 |
| Year-Round High | $24,855.21 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,857 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.46% |
Prices have softened 9.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 818 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $22,186.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade a good car?
Generally — the 4.11/5 user rating points to a strong ownership experience for many shoppers. Owners consistently praise the luxurious features, comfortable ride, and strong performance, and many also highlight the interior quality and smooth driving experience. That makes it a compelling fit if you want a full-size luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort, technology, and family-friendly space. With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to comfort and performance. The same feedback also suggests that condition matters, since some owners mention cosmetic issues and a high price tag. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about finding a well-kept example than avoiding the model outright.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac Escalade?
At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with prior damage. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing photos or description suggest cosmetic wear, uneven panel gaps, or signs of heavy use. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since owner feedback suggests those factors matter a lot on this model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac Escalade?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 818 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,186.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Cadillac Escalade's resale value?
The current average of $22,505 sits slightly below last year's $24,857.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more favorably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the key is to buy a clean, well-maintained example so you preserve as much value as possible. Strong condition and documented care matter more when the market is already softer.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac Escalade or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $19,926, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $22,505 average.
- It offers a redesigned, high-profile luxury SUV with strong buyer appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2016 is the stronger primary path because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction is solid. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
