overall

Summary
With 239 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,508.00, 26.4% of 2016 Cadillac CTS models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Cadillac CTS 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
53.1% of 2016 CTS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Cadillac CTS stands out as a sleek, modern luxury sedan that builds on the car’s reputation for angular styling, forward-looking engines, and technology. According to the test-drive summary, this third-generation CTS is the largest, most refined, and most high-tech version of the car to date, and the 2016 model carries that formula forward with a few key updates that make it more powerful and more tech-savvy. That combination gives it a stronger case against established German luxury rivals while preserving the distinctive Cadillac character that helped redefine the CTS in the first place.
For buyers, the appeal is in the blend of style, comfort, and sophistication. Owner feedback echoes that theme, pointing to the car’s sleek design, comfortable ride, advanced safety features, smooth driving experience, and luxurious interior. The main limitation in the available reviews is not a specific mechanical complaint but a lack of detailed criticism, so the 2016 Cadillac CTS comes across more as a polished, well-rounded luxury sedan than a car with a clearly defined weakness.

Beautiful lines and stance. Excellent driver comfort and controls. Drives like it is on rails. Was hit from behind at 50 mph while sitting at red light, completely totaled car and airbags deployed from several locations and saved my life. Will get another one!

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels sleek, comfortable, and advanced, with no recurring complaint dominating the feedback. That kind of praise, paired with the emphasis on a smooth driving experience and luxurious interior, supports the impression of a dependable ownership experience.
The expert drive notes also describe the CTS as confident and well sorted on the road, with responsive handling and strong braking. The available maintenance coverage on the first scheduled visit adds a small ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about a single obvious flaw and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?
At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury sedan: interior wear, electronics behavior, and evidence that the car’s safety and convenience systems still work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Standard trim gives you the core luxury-sedan experience, while Luxury adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. Performance adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist. Premium layers on a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft, or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. The 8-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels or available AWD.
- Safety package: The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The car also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor.
- Infotainment: CUE uses a touchscreen layout with customizable menus, Apple CarPlay support, and a large center display. The system also integrates phone, navigation, climate, and entertainment functions, plus OnStar.
- Fuel efficiency: The available 2.0-liter turbo is the efficiency-oriented engine in the lineup, while the V6 and Vsport trade economy for stronger performance.
Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?
The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the entry point if you want the CTS’s core styling, technology, and luxury feel at the lowest starting point. It makes sense if you care most about the car’s design and overall character and can live without the added convenience and safety upgrades.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels without jumping all the way to the more equipment-heavy upper trims.
- Performance: Choose this if you want the chassis upgrades and parking aids, including magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist.
- Premium: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete CTS experience, with the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 228 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,411.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?
The current average of $13,537 sits slightly below last year's $14,512.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market appreciation.
Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong equipment should hold up better than average. The CTS’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The CTS comes with a standard driver-awareness package that includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. It also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, which helps with parking and low-speed maneuvering.
That said, some of the more helpful safety and convenience features are tied to higher trims, so you’ll want to confirm exactly what’s installed on the car you’re considering. The surround-view system is especially useful given the car’s longer wheelbase and less-tight turning radius.
Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 brings a more powerful and more tech-savvy update to the CTS formula.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,252, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,537 average.
- It gets the fundamentals right while asking for more attention to detail.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger blend of updates, tech, and overall polish, the 2016 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you find a well-kept example.
