Is the 2016 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 BMW X5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its performance, luxurious interior, and sporty driving experience, and they also value the feature content and upscale cabin. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a luxury SUV that still emphasizes driving feel, roomy seating, and generous cargo space. Is the 2016 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as powerful, enjoyable to drive, and well equipped, with the kind of upscale feel that keeps many buyers happy over time. The recurring praise for performance and the cabin suggests a model that can feel rewarding to own when it has been cared for properly. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a neglected example, so service history matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW X5?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of wear, uneven panel gaps, and any issues that could point to past collision repairs or deferred maintenance. Because this is a luxury SUV, condition and documentation matter as much as mileage when you compare listings.

What is the 2016 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $13,628 sits slightly below last year's $14,966.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because buyers in this segment tend to reward clean records and strong presentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,401, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,628 average.
• It blends SUV practicality with BMW’s signature driving feel.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better value-oriented path, especially if you find a well-kept example with solid history.
