How much does the 2016 Acura TLX cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 599 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura TLX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The TLX is positioned as a performance luxury sedan, and the overview makes clear that it is meant to balance driving enjoyment with upscale appeal. The expert assessment also frames it as part of Acura’s effort to restore brand identity and create more passion among buyers, so you’re looking at a car with a premium mission rather than a purely practical one.

The market also shows 33.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview presents the TLX as a sedan that aims to blend performance and luxury, and the expert commentary reinforces that it has real strengths in refinement and value. The performance notes also point to a smooth, powerful V6 in the right configuration, which supports the idea that the car can feel well sorted when it’s equipped and driven the right way.

The cost-effectiveness commentary adds that the TLX can be a bargain relative to key competitors, and that matters for ownership confidence because a car that feels like a strong value is often easier to live with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well enough to avoid expensive surprises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura TLX?

At 50.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the car drives as tightly as it should, since the market includes a sizable number of cars with accident histories.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TLX is presented as a performance luxury sedan with a value-priced 4-door layout, but the cabin is described as dated and the base setup lacks some of the more upscale touches you may want.
• Powertrain: The TLX is available with a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, and the V6 SH-AWD setup is described as especially strong when paired with the right tires and driving mode.
• Safety package: The car includes sophisticated driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, but the safety content also notes a Marginal result for small-overlap frontal protection and a Marginal result for LATCH ease of use.
• Infotainment: The TLX does not offer Wi-Fi access or smartphone projection such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though it does include AcuraLink-related features, Bluetooth, and available navigation through the Technology Package.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car was rated at 25 mpg, and the expert notes 22.8 mpg on a test loop.

Which 2016 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura TLX is offered in 2 trim levels: TLX 2.4 and TLX 3.5 SH-AWD.

Here's the short version:

• TLX 2.4: This is the entry point and the better fit if you want the TLX’s upscale feel without paying for the more expensive V6 and SH-AWD hardware. It keeps the car’s value-focused mission intact and is the trim that best matches the model’s bargain positioning.
• TLX 3.5 SH-AWD: This is the one to choose if you care most about performance. The expert notes that the V6, torque-vectoring SH-AWD, Agile Handling Assist, and upgraded tires transform the car’s driving dynamics, making this the best-value trim for enthusiasts who want the TLX at its most engaging.

Safety content notes that the TLX’s crash-protection performance includes a Marginal small-overlap frontal result and a Marginal LATCH rating, so inspect any used example carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura TLX?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 599 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 50.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,998, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $14,529 sits slightly below last year's $14,534.

That small decline suggests the TLX has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to a market that is predictable and easier to price against.

The model’s value-oriented positioning also helps support demand, especially when shoppers see it as a premium sedan with a strong equipment story. If your car is clean, well maintained, and accident-free, you should have a better shot at attracting serious buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX safe?

The 2016 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, but it also gets a Marginal IIHS rating for small-overlap frontal protection.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content says the TLX includes sophisticated driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies that operate with a high level of sophistication. It also notes a Marginal result for child-seat LATCH ease of use, so you should pay close attention if you plan to install child seats regularly.

That small-overlap result is the main caveat for used buyers, especially because the TLX was a new design when it was tested. If safety is a top priority, you should verify the condition of any used example carefully and make sure all safety systems are functioning properly.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says Acura is trying to restore its heritage and rebuild passion around the brand.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,264, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,529 average.
• It is a likable near-luxury sedan with rewarding driving dynamics and strong value.

The 2016 makes sense if you want the current-year market snapshot and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers much of the same appeal.

How does the 2016 Acura TLX compare to the 2016 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2016 Acura TLX 6.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Accord 6.8/10.

The TLX leans more toward premium feel and performance-luxury positioning, while the Accord offers stronger everyday efficiency and broader market availability. The TLX also has a higher average used price, but it comes with a more upscale mission and a stronger cost-effectiveness score from our experts.

If you want the more affordable mainstream sedan with better fuel economy, the Accord is the easier value play. If you want a more premium-feeling car and are willing to shop carefully for condition, the TLX is the more distinctive choice.
