Is the 2016 Acura TLX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura TLX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The TLX is positioned as a performance luxury sedan, so you get a clear upscale identity along with Acura’s effort to blend driving enjoyment and premium appeal. The expert assessment also points to a car that can deliver on that promise when it’s specified well, especially in the stronger-performing configurations.

The market also shows 32.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The TLX is described as a model that can feel refined and premium inside, with materials and cabin quality that support everyday ownership. The expert notes also point to a car that aims to balance comfort and driving enjoyment, which usually matters when you’re living with a used luxury sedan day to day.

The same expert commentary also highlights that the car’s promise depends heavily on execution, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot when you’re buying used. For long-term ownership, you should pay close attention to how well the car has been cared for and whether any wear items have already been addressed.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura TLX?

At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, because the TLX’s value depends heavily on how well the car has been maintained and whether its premium features still work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 4-cylinder trim is the entry point, while the V6 and SH-AWD versions add more performance-oriented appeal and a more upscale feel. The base car is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about stronger power and richer equipment.
• Powertrain: The TLX is available with a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, and SH-AWD is offered on the V6. The V6 version is described as smooth and powerful, while the front-drive trims are noted for better handling balance.
• Safety package: The car includes a sophisticated set of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, but the safety content also notes a Marginal result for small-overlap frontal protection and a Marginal result for LATCH ease of use.
• Infotainment: The TLX does not offer Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Wi-Fi access. It does include AcuraLink subscription services with the Technology Package, plus navigation, a premium sound system, and other connected features.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 test car was rated at 25 mpg, and the expert observed 22.8 mpg on a test loop.

Which 2016 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura TLX is offered in 2 trim levels: TLX 2.4 and TLX 3.5 SH-AWD.

Here's the short version:

• TLX 2.4: This is the lower-cost entry point, and it makes sense if you want the TLX’s upscale cabin and value positioning without paying for the more powerful V6 and SH-AWD hardware. It’s the better fit if your priority is keeping purchase price and running costs in check.
• TLX 3.5 SH-AWD: This is the best-value choice if you want the TLX to feel like the performance luxury sedan Acura is aiming for. The V6, torque-vectoring SH-AWD, and upgraded driving dynamics make it the more compelling pick for enthusiasts and for buyers who want the car’s strongest character.

The safety content also notes a Marginal result for small-overlap frontal protection, so whichever trim you choose, condition and crash-history checks should be part of your decision.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best cars still deserve quick action.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 601 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,998, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $14,621 sits slightly above last year's $14,563.

That small increase suggests the TLX has held its value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is useful because it points to a market that is still willing to pay for the car when it’s priced correctly.

The current pricing range also gives you a useful benchmark if you plan to resell later, since buyers appear to respond to well-priced examples. A clean, well-kept TLX should remain easier to move than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX safe?

The TLX gets perfect five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, but it also earns a Marginal rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for small-overlap frontal protection.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content says Acura’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies generally operate with a high level of sophistication. It also notes a Marginal result for child-seat LATCH ease of use, which is worth keeping in mind if you plan to install child seats regularly.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 TLX is positioned as a performance luxury sedan with a clear value focus and a strong cost-effectiveness score.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,576, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,621 average.
• It blends rewarding driving dynamics with modern entertainment and safety technology.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2016 is the better starting point. If your main goal is saving money up front, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you find one in clean condition with a solid history.
